Only the ones that used to come with phone numbers written in them.
In all seriousness, I don’t, but my brother does. He is some pretty cool ones.

No, but I have a huge bag of them my grandfather collected. Haven’t been through it in years. He traveled for work a lot in the 70’s and early 80’s, so most of them are really old.

I’ve found that as technology continues to speed up our world, the old stuff gets forgotten. Everything is disposable now. Nothing is built to last. Hell, we had a thread about replacing the Superdome. Stadiums aren’t even built to last.
The older I get, I find myself collecting everything. I have an entire room full of just...stuff. I have a massive collection of sports memorabilia, and that has slowly shifted into historical items.
I don’t actively collect matchbooks, but if I stumble upon one I hang on to it. I find them very similar to postcards. Cheap, small, and just a small nugget of history. The way I am, I can’t fault anybody for collecting anything.

When I was a kid I did. It seems kind of funny now that all hotel rooms had ash trays with a book of matches in them. I had a huge jar full of them that I wish I still had.
My dad use to buy the state spoons in each state we visited. It was fun to go inside the nearest Stucky’s whenever we crossed a state line to pick one out. It saddened me when I came home from college one day over 30 years ago and realized he had decided to throw them all away.

I see them all the time and will grab a few from time to time. I’ll only grab old Vegas ones, or maybe famous New Orleans restaurants, etc

I used to always pick them up in bars and hotels. It started in college, when I took dozens of napkins every time I went in any restaurant too.I think I took home plastic salt and pepper shakers once too.
Do bars still have matchbooks?

When my grandma passed, I got one of her old shifarobes and it was empty except on the bottom I found an old matchbook. It has written on it "Elect Schiro Mayor". Schiro ran for mayor of New Orleans in the mid '60s, so it is about 55 years old. And its in good condition.

It used to be neat to do, but who has them available now?
Posted on 1/3/21 at 8:42 pm to prplhze2000
I used to back when smoking in places was a thing. Always grabbed them when traveling.

I have 4 large ziplock jam packed bags from restaurants and bars from the 70s thru 90s that I picked up while traveling the Southeast amd some MidWest States. I need to toss em or hold on to them another 50 or so years.

Crazy that the Romans built stuff that is still around

I collect match books. Have been collecting for a little while. If anyone wants to get rid of any matchbooks they have, message me.
