I feel like 1995-1997 all the kids had these souped up ball bearing yoyos. I wasn't able to get one, "they were expensive", but they lit up and crap. No, I'm not high and I didn't even mildly google. This is pure toilet sitting nostalgia stream of consciousness.
You are definitely not misremembering and you have the dates down perfectly. Fads in the 90s were wild considering there was no internet

yo yos go WAY back but definitely a huge fad in the 70s. Lots of television commercials that featured people doing tricks with them as a sales gimmick I only seemed to master the trick of hitting my sister in the head with one.

I remember going to a clinic at the local toy store that was packed during this time.
Now I have a Yomega bundle in my Amazon cart
ETA: this was probably 97-99.

Showing my age here, this was the most popular yoyo when I was a kid

So you make others do your work for you?

Can you imagine the bonuses and Christmas parties at yomega during those couple years?

The yo-yo champion of the world lives in St George.

I remember having someone come to my elementary to show us yo-yo tricks
Jonas Salk Elementary school, Metairie, around 1972 had a couple of guys give a school wide exhibition and tried to teach a couple of kids walking the dog.
Back then the yo-yo was pretty barebones and basic. Bright colors and paint patterns were just beginning.
Every decade has had a slight resurgence of interest in yo-yo’s since they were invented. Classic kids toy for all times.

Those yoyos were cool. Mine was blue if I remember correctly.

I graduated in 95. They were indeed popular then. Actually, they were actually picking up popularity in the early 90s. It seemed like everyone in my 8th and/or 9th grade class had one. I used to pack one in my Gameboy case when I went on vacations or traveled. I lost interest by the mid-90s, but the yoyo became more popular then.

Off by a decade. I had a birthday party early 80s. I got like 20 yoyos. The Diamond. The butterfly. The Imperial. What a crappy time to have a party in the middle of the Duncan YoYo craze.

Come on guys. If it isn’t a Duncan, it isn’t a yo-yo.

Yes. I used to walk the shite outta my yo yo

I blame this for the reason I don't gamble.
Nothing like losing a heavy stack to some guy with a half pound slammer.

No he isn't. You do realize the yoyo has made many comebacks, and you can also find countless videos, blogs, and articles about the 90s fad.

I don’t care how crazy it sounds but a buddy of mine started this trend. Early 90s he brings a yo-yo to school and I remember thinking “what the hell? Who plays with a yo-yo?” Slowly over the school year more kids have them. The next year there are commercials and everyone has them.

They along with clackers that you concussed yourself with were the rage in the early 70's.

It was around 88/89 at my school.
