Lots of great ideas, thanks everyone.

sounds spot on to what I’m looking for. I’m leaning towards this now.

Most of the better ones call for soda and I want to avoid that.
The building is awesome. I’m sure it needs major repairs, but I hope they make the right repairs and keep the old spirit alive. A shitty building is part of the charm, let’s just hope the kitchen is clean.
18-60 yrs. More 40-60 than anything else. Would like to provide a cocktail option besides wine and beer but don’t want to have to mix anything during the party. Something to sip on, not a get-drunk kind of party.

I’m seeing some recipes online and trying to steer away from club soda. Wouldn’t that go flat if made and sitting for 1-2 hours?

Using club soda would be ideal though as I would think that would make the cocktail not as strong.

A couple of front runners (online searches):

Belmont jewel
- bourbon
- lemonade
- pomegranate

Madras
- cranberrry
- vodka
- orange juice

Greyhound
- grapefruit juice
- gin

@deltadummy is on track, great suggestions. Something simple but kind of enhanced with a garnish. Maybe make some garnish picks ahead of time, they can drop on their cup.
I’m hosting a graduation party at the end of May. It will be outside and warm.

I’m looking for a cocktail/alcohol drink I can serve in large quantities. Something semi-refreshing and not too strong for men and women outside in the heat. I will have wine and beer but want some type of cocktail. I’m happy with just one, I don’t need a full bar.

My only experience with this is something like jungle juice back in college.

My idea is to have a beverage dispenser (like a lemonade jar) filled with the cocktail. We can have garnishes and ice on the side if needed.

What would you suggest?
I had a strange experience once. I lived in a neighborhood. My neighbor just moved, house was sold, and new neighbor was doing a few repairs before moving in.

At midnight one night, I noticed the dude had lit a fire in the middle of his grass yard and then left. I assume he was letting everything burn down while he was gone. I looked over in his yard and the fire was rolling. Flaming high and large. It wasn’t like it was just coals.

We were in a dry spell and the yard was next to my infant son’s window. The realist in me knew it would be ok but with my baby there, I couldn’t relax.

Thought about calling fire department but didn’t want to make them come out. So I grabbed my water hose and doused the fire in his yard. I’m sure he was shocked and maybe mad when he came back the next day, but oh well.

If it wasn’t rolling flames, I probably would have just let it go. Anyway, CSB.
Bumping in case anyone else has suggestions.

I’m thinking of heading to Little Havana to eat, probably at some of the places mentioned above. Then I’ll sightsee South Beach. If for some reason I don’t eat in Little Havana, I’ll check out Joes Stone Crab.

Manta looks like a great experience, but doubt I’ll have the time.
I have an odd trip coming up. I’m passing through Miami and then Boca Raton.

I’ll have a couple of free hours in the afternoon in each city.

Wondering if there’s any restaurant or store or place that you think is a cool place to check out if you were visiting the cities for 1 day. I’m open to all suggestions in all areas, send them my way and I’ll research them.

Thanks!!
So, I won’t lie, I had an issue with supreme rice. I noticed small gravel/rocks in the rice. I poured it all into a container and sorted it. There were a lot of these small hard rocks.

I sorted the rice and pulled out all I could find. I emailed the company just to tell them what I found. I said I wasn’t looking for any reimbursement, I was just informing them of the issue.

Their response was the rocks were natural with rice farming (maybe so) and they were safe to eat (I disagree). I was at the least expecting them to say they would check the problem out. They did not.

I went back to Mahatma. Never had an issue and it’s the rice I have bought forever. I have no interest in using Supreme.

Zombies are a stupid premise all around. If something did indeed cause your brain to “come to life”, your muscles cannot move if your heart isn’t beating blood. Therefore you cannot move.

But we accept this flawed premise to be entertained in the zombie genre.

But the walking dead did a proper show based on the accepted flawed premise.

I went and it was great. I enjoyed the special effects with the car and lights. It worked very well for this show since it was supposed to be "futuristic". I loved how much of the dialogue was the exact wording from the movie.

It was odd not having the Libyans though. (Instead of having African terrorists shooting guns and RPGs, the musical had Doc die from radiation exposure.)

My son worked with Elite. Few years ago before their new complex was built. It was perfect for him. He needed extra instruction and focused drills for high school football.

He was never going to be a college player, we all knew that. We didn’t try to kid ourselves. We just wanted him to improve so he could keep playing high school and do his best.

Don’t go there thinking your kid is going to play college because of it. He has to have the talent first and foremost. There were some kids who were trying for college spots and they were leaps and bounds above my son’s ability. They can help get you better for sure, but they cannot turn a normal athlete into a stud athlete.

It did cost us a lot of money. And there’s plenty of former college athletes trying to make a living off you there. Don’t trust any of them until you see what they are doing and whether or not it’s beneficial and not just a cash cow.
I’m painting a picnic table. Making it decorative for a particular purpose. I am thinking of clear coating it once it’s painted because I want the paint to last as long as possible.

I’ve never clear coated anything. Should I? If so, do I use clear polyurethane? Varnish? I want one that will not change the color of the paint (as much as possible). Doesn’t some varnish have a yellow tint?

Any info would be appreciated as I’ve never clear coated before.

Extra info: I have a picnic table kit unassembled. So I’m painting the pieces before assembling the table. I’m using outdoor latex paint. The table will sit outside in the sun and weather.

Raised Garden Bed Build Info

Posted by 3BlockUber on 10/30/25 at 10:00 am
I am going to build a raised bed this winter for vegetables. I looked up past topics and it seems like many suggest using treated pine (that the chemicals do not affect the vegetables) and sealing the inside with caulk.

Is this still the best way? I'm thinking something like 8 foot long by 2-3 foot wide. Any other advice? Thanks in advance!

I was thinking a design like this:
