re: Do you wave to or otherwise acknowledge someone who allows you into traffic?

It's usually someone on my left letting me turn right in front of them from a side street stop sign. I do a left hand straight up, look them in the eye, and literally say thank you, as I pull out. After we're heading down the street, I wave my right hand, look at them in the mirror, and nod. They know I appreciate their kindness.

During a drive, here's nothing as empowering as letting someone into the flow of traffic. You are in charge of that situation every time. Do it at least once a day, and you'll feel like you're in control of the drive, not a slave to it.

Yes. I will also repay the favor as soon as I can.

I overly say thanks. Usually when they let me in I give them a wave and then when I’m in the lane, I give them another wave to make sure they saw me.
Same. I like to think they’ll be more likely to repeat their courtesy of letting people in because of my gesture of gratitude.
And it does make me a teensy bit sad for a fleeting second when I let someone in and get nothing. It feels so good to get the wave of thanks!

My autopilot is not programmed to allow others in.

Ha, good one. You’re such a hoot.

I take offense to this. People from the midwest are among the nicest you could hope to meet.
I'll often go so far as to give a wave out the sunroof.
Parody, but a lot of waves in here: midwest driving school

I think I'd wave even if I tried not to.

I don't wave. I follow them home, then get out and pour them a shot of Tequila to show my appreciation. I have met some cool people doing this.
A few days ago I was going into a 7-11. This heavyset troll of a woman, about 55 years old was about 15 feet from the door, heading toward it. I stopped and waited for her, then held the door open for her to go in.
Well, Princess saunters in with no thought of a thank you, or any kind of acknowledgement whatsoever. I said "You're welcome". She turned and looked at me with that look that let's me know she is wondering WTF is wrong with me.
I just left. I did not escalate, but think I could have taken her with a good left hook. Sorry my story does not have a cool ending.

When I first started driving 30 something years ago, I was taking my mom’s to the state fair in Shreveport and I let a car over in line to park in front of me. When I got to the parking attendant, he told me that my friend in front had paid for my parking. I look up and the guy is waving out his window.
Don’t know why, but I have never forgotten that.

I'm over the top with it. Pretty close to a Forest Gump wave.

Takes a millisecond to give the courtesy wave. But most people are so selfish and don’t care .
I wish there was a way to tell if the person would give you a courtesy wave before you let them in. If not.. I’m not letting you in
