I generally always do it. I don't even know if the other person sees it, pays attention, or even cared one way or the other. But that is my attempt at being a decent human being I guess

more often than not people are appreciative but the heavyset black woman with 5 kids walking into a Canal Street Mcdonalds a couple years back got me real good. gave her the standard "youre welcome" after i held the door for her and each member of her flock and she turned to me and said "no YOU welcome"
