Do you ever stop to think about what we’re actually looking at when we look at the stars?

Or is it just kind of, “meh? Yeah there’s stars”
Those stars we see in the night sky are only the stars in the Milky Way itself. And if the Milky Way were the size of a grain of sand, the observable universe would be the size of a sports stadium or the Empire State Building. So we’re only seeing a speck of sand inside that stadium of the stars out there
And there are an estimated 2 trillion other galaxies in the observable universe with some schmuck alien complaining they can’t see us either.
Really makes you think

Not really.
They are so far out there I don't even think about them.

The honest answer is no one on Earth knows… your guess got the same probability of being right as an astrophysicist

I think I'm looking at suns.

David told us what we’re looking at.
Psalms 19:1 (KJV)
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Starships were meant to fly
Hands up and touch the sky
Can't stop 'cause we're so high
Let's do this one more time, oh

This post reminds me of the Donald Sutherland pot scene in Animal House.

Yes, some of that light started its journey before I was born. Makes me closer to God. Every time.
Moreso than Earthly religions do.
God is real and out there.

I haven’t in a long time but when I was in Zimbabwe at a resort that had very little electricity and everywhere around it was dark.. to see those stars.. it was like I was in a planetarium
I’ve never seen anything like that before or since . It was magical and I think about it often
Edit: and to echo a poster above… we went to a Zimbabwean church as well during the end of Mugabes regime, worshipping and singing songs in our respective languages , it was the most human I’ve ever felt.
Oceans can separate us but we are all still in this together and then seeing the stars.

I'm a big fan of margaritas, but the last few I've had have been mediocre to inferior.

This really doesn’t seem that big, the observable universe. I would have guessed the comparison to be much bigger.
