The universe is so vast that no way I can ever be convinced that Earth holds the only intelligent life.

I look at it as there is so much for others to strive for and discover. Look at me, the fricking optimist.

The most mind blowing to me is that the light we see from those stars is years old. The star may not even actually be there anymore.

Good point actually for your reasoning and the fact that some (we can’t see with the naked eye) definitely aren’t there anymore because:

objects sufficiently far away from us (about \(14.5 billion light-years away) are actually moving apart faster than the speed of light. This does not violate Einstein's laws, as it is space itself stretching, rather than objects physically moving through space
I need a second margarita to think about this

We are looking at the past.

I've always thought that stars are comprised of the essence/souls of people who have died - their energy is absorbed by the atmosphere and continues to rise and metamorphoses into stars

Hmmm, that doesn’t sound right

When you look out at the stars, you are the universe seeing itself.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
The heart has its beaches, its homeland and thoughts of its own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
But the heart has its seasons, its evenings and songs of its own

I think about the fact that our Sun is actually a Star. It is one million times bigger than the Earth, yet it doesn't look that big cuz it is 93 million miles away.
Then I look at those pinpoints of lights in the sky called Stars and realize every single one of them have planets that orbit them, and those stars are actually "Suns" to those orbiting planets. The potential for life existing in those solar systems becomes a bit more tangible if you look at the night sky filled with "Suns".
