I have adopted the Turkish way of handling red lights. About 1 sec before the light turns green, start blowing the horn.

could be they forgot to turn off their auto start/stop feature every time they get in the car and it takes a little for the car to turn back on. But also just as likely they're on their phone.

Yes. Yes we will. I just moved here six months ago and quickly learned that the first 2 seconds of red mean floor it.

When I was up in Michigan for a little while, everyone around Detroit said that (and the people I saw also did this) they don't stop at red lights or stop signs. More of a rolling stop but you keep going, especially at night and in winter. I figure this is more of a safety thing than a truck nutz drag race to see who can get to the on ramp the fastest.

1. I wouldn’t sit there through one cycle if you wouldn’t move after being alerted to the green light, I’d simply go around you.

2. You’d intentionally sit though 3 light cycles out of spite and you are calling me an a-hole? Yeah, you seem rational.

I saw a video about installing a softer horn for this scenario. I'm thinking about it. Because I agree with op and every day I have to honk someone. Many times this ends in me being flipped off. Even for a quick tap.

Mark Rober (package their glitterbomb inventor) - nicest car horn ever

I was at a light a few weeks back and the guy didn't go. A cab driver behind me honked. The guy in front of me then refused to move. So the cab driver went to the right. Then had words with the guy and turned around him.
The guy was so mad he turned through the now red light to I guess catch the cab. Well a cop driving up behind saw him go through the red light. Because he got pulled over. Best instant karma I saw in 2020.

I grew up in a small town in Louisiana. One of the 2 school buses had the General Lee Dixie horn on it. Imagine having that thing now and blasting someone in traffic. Man the 80s were great

If the red light is longer than 5-10 seconds, people will start playing on their phones. People have the attention span of a fly.

Just know that every time you leave the house and start driving that you are surrounded by stupid people in control of 2 ton missiles.

The diving test is too easy
There is no test to have children or vote

Found your problem. It’s your job as the second car in line to make sure the first person is paying attention and to honk after ONE second if they don’t move.

The other day I was the 4th car in line and I had to be the one to honk. I gave it a while too. Not like I was jumping the gun on honking.

I’d like to think the 2nd and 3rd car weren’t also on their phones and were too nice to honk but that’s probably unrealistic

It can be aggravating for sure. But the people who lay on the horn a fraction of a second after the light turns is even more aggravating.

this. hearing a horn just shuts a lot of people down and instantly turns it into a bigger and slower problem.
