Seems like just recently I've had several encounters where the person in the lane next to me starts swerving into my lane to the point I have to honk to keep them from drifting into my car. Invariably, when I finally get past them, I can see they're playing on the phone while driving. It really is getting ridiculous.

I hate how horns can sound so aggressive. I wish there was a secondary horn you could honk that said “hey man! The lights green! Just wanted to let you know! Peace and love!”
Saw this video a while back addressing this exact issue

Where I live, if you jump out as soon as the light turns green you are going to get T-boned. You literally have to sit there a few seconds and wait for Spicoli to go flying through the red light.

You just reminded me of another pet peeve...two lanes in each direction, light turns to red and the first car stops in the left lane. The next guy then moves over to the right lane so he's zero cars back instead of one. But he's also going straight and blocks anyone from turning right during the red. frick those guys.
This 100%. If I'm in the far-right lane approaching a stop and know I'll be blocking people from turning right, I'll try to get over (if there won't be too many cars ahead of me

Do people just lose focus after stopping at red lights?
I find myself honking my horn because when the light turns green, people just sit there. Probably playing with that phone. It’s a trend. Sure it may be only 5-6 seconds they wasted but if you’re 7th or 8th in line, that could be a difference maker in beating the light. And it’s brutal not making it during rush hour.
They have all the reaction of a snail regardless of if they’re in the game or MIA, but you’re right. It’s an epidemic, but that’s probably the lest of their problems. Worst still are the countless numbers looking down at their phones driving down the interstate, just farting around in life, but dragging arse and making last minute dangerous decisions because they weren’t paying attention.

I have started a new method in recent years to combat this. I stop one half car length behind every car in front of me. When they sit there at the light change, instead of honking I just drive around them. I usually check the rear view and they never even noticed me passing.

They are either on the phone or looking at their crotch.

Instead of stimulus checks, we need a jobs program like the CCC during the depression.
One job is Intersection Director. Put a laid off guy in a tower with a PA system.
"Attention lady in the brown Buick. The arrow is about to go green, so put down the phone and get ready. Now Go! Go! Go!"
"Hey F-150. If you're going straight through the intersection, don't block that right lane. Move over so people behind you can turn right on red and be on their way."

I see it all the time at lights and it is infuriating.
How important do some of the people think they are that they feel the need to constantly be on their phones and not paying attention to the task at hand.
Also can't tell you how many people I've seen almost getting hit by cars, walking into shite, tripping over cracks in sidewalks, etc. because their heads are focused on that screen in their hands.
And the one that gets me is when I see ball games on TV and the camera scans the crowd and many of the people in the stadium are glued to their cellphones instead of watching the game. Why pay $100 for a ticket to see a game live and spend that time on the phone texting?
Stay home and text from your damn sofa dumbass and save that money.

There is such a horn

Oh man I crack up when I’m stopped at the red to go straight and the turning lane to the left of me has an arrow and ALL participants of the line aren’t paying attention so nobody even honks at the first car.
I’ve considered honking to scare the shite out of them all, but frick em. They deserve to miss the light.

I admit, I didn't notice a green light once. I had just bought a Honk If You Love Jesus bumper sticker and put it on my car. I was lost in thought about the Lord and didn't see the light change. I found a lot of people who love Jesus.
One guy started yelling "Go, Jesus Christ, go!" It was like a football game. Another guy must have been from Florida because he was saying something about a sunny beach.

Now this is something I would be ok with my tax dollars going to. Beats the hell out of Pakistani gender studies.
