I remember when the smaller plastic bottles didn't exist and everything was glass bottles or cans.

Lemon-lime Gatorade in a glass bottle was heaven on a hot summer day.

Yep….we painted 2-liters when empty to use as duck decoys….3-liters were goose decoys!

Same here. Except I just called the 3 liter bottles "magnum decoys"

Yes and my Dad was a miserly SOB who hid the bottles in the top of my parents' closet. He used his Popeye-grade forearm strength to twist those caps on so tight I needed a wrench to open it when I wanted to sneak some.

Yep, and an ice-cold Coke or whatever soft drink tastes way better out of a glass bottle.

Damn I guess it’s been so long since I purchased a Coke that I haven’t reallly thought about the fact that 3 liters don’t exist anymore but yea we had them growing up.

Did you work with Bubba?

Did you drop cases of Surge off at my house in 1996?

We had a lot of nicknames, but no Bubba. Seeing you're from Birmingham, Coke United was likely your local company back in 96 and still is. I worked for Consolidated here in Mobile who has since sold this plant to United.

Surge was not one of our finest moments. One mystery was the original Sprite Remix. 2002 it hit the market in a Tropical Mix flavor and smelled like skittles when you opened the bottle Kids loved it even the college ones couldnt keep it in the coolers. I had to dedicate entire coolers to the stuff.

Then they pulled it cold turkey, the reason given? Poor sales. That was BS.

What about the 8oz coke cans that were the same diameter as a 12oz can, only shorter. Those were the good old days.

Yep. I remember the caps were like aluminum or similar.

There were aluminum caps on 10 Oz and 16 Oz glass bottles in the mid 90's.

Glass containers were so much better than plastic.

They had those black bases you could pop off. We cut them open and made terrariums in elementary school

I remember doing that.

I also find those Styrofoam labels with the glass bottles all the time in the woods.

I went to a rough school.

We did this to the kids from the neighboring schools.

There is a fortune to be made with the invention of a soda bottle that has the properties of glass, but it can be thin and strong like the current plastics. Maybe even a liner of some kind for the current bottles. Taste would drastically improve.

I feel sorry for the younger people who have never had a Gatorade in a glass bottle. Man those were good on a hot day right out of the ice.

I want to say that was on the old 2 liter bottles too.

They were on the 2 liters. My mom would pop them off and let the dog chew on it.
