Surge was not one of our finest moments. One mystery was the original Sprite Remix. 2002 it hit the market in a Tropical Mix flavor and smelled like skittles when you opened the bottle Kids loved it even the college ones couldnt keep it in the coolers. I had to dedicate entire coolers to the stuff.
I went to a little private school and we had surge in our vending machines...there were like 6 of them and each one had 2 slots and they still were always sold out. There was a spike in unruly behavior in the classrooms around this time and the school blamed surge. They contacted coca cola and demanded it be removed from the vending machines. They came and removed it alright...they set up tables and had troughs filled with the stuff and then they emptied out all the vending machines and gave the shite away for free.
I don't know why the school allowed it, or if coke did it without even asking, but the teachers and administration were fricking furious. I'll always remember that day
I seriously did not understand why they stopped selling the stuff so abruptly...it couldn't have been lack of sales. I wonder if they got too much pushback about how nuts it made kids.

Corporate dropped a note to the distributor, who didn't want to bother putting cans back on the truck that they couldn't use again. I can totally see the average Mockler driver doing something like this to avoid the work.

I had completely forgotten about 3L cokes. I guess they stopped making them because they went flat before most people could finish them.
While we're on food, kids these days will never know the crispness of a freshly cracked Surge on a hot summer day.
ETA: and infrared freeze flavored Powerade.

They certainly did. You could not make dry ice bombs with them because the metal cap leaked. 2 liters were our go to

The three liter soft drink plastics also made great cloches for protecting young plants from late freezes in the spring. Didn't last very well from year to year, but we thought they'd be back next year. Until they weren't.

Y'alls tards started swinging over caffeine? I liked Surge because it was spicy Mountain Dew and had great marketing but no one is fighting over a cup of coffee -- maybe a lack of cup of coffee.

For some reason this thread makes me remember the old 6.5 oz coke bottles. For some reason it just tasted better coming from them back in the day

Fatties got so depressed when 3 liters and biggie fries went away!
