We have 2 Toyota Hybrids,a Prius and a Highlander.Louisiana started charging $60 a year for hybrids because they feel we don’t pay our fair share of gas taxes.
I don’t have a big problem with it,I can see their point.
What I have a problem with is their incompetence and the bullshite we have to go through to pay it.
Every year it’s the same crap,we send in the form and a check for the fee.
After a few weeks we get a letter claiming we didn’t pay it with demand letter charging a late fee on top of the $60 per vehicle.
I don’t know hw many hours wife spent last year getting it straight, had to send in a copy of the cancelled check and hours on the phone.

This year same crap, she has spent 6 hours on the phone last 2 days and still doesn’t have it straight.Woman today says she will look into it and call back tomorrow.

It’s infuriating, wife doesn’t let me call because I get irrationally angry when dealing with incompetent govt.employees and say things I shouldn’t(according to the wife).
Just pisses me off that my tax dollars are paying salaries of these nitwits.

Rant over.

Is there no option to pay online? If I'd said I was surprised Louisiana government officials are/ were incompetent, I'd be lying.

Pay it online. Easy peasy.

So I’m half retarted but has anyone done the math on electricity taxes to charge your vehicle vs gas taxes?

I’m sure the government gets taxes when you charge at a super charger and when you charge at home. It may be lower but fricking renters aren’t paying 20k a year in property tax

Get a LATap account and pay it directly online.

Get an irs.gov account too. Closest you are going to get to being able to see what they can see, may as well use it

We most certainly need a taxpayer revolt in this country. Billions wasted every year.

Supercharger is 7% sales tax in LA while gas tax is $0.20/gallon. So a 20 gallon tank would be $4 in tax.

The superchargers in LA are usually $0.37/kwh, so the 7% tax is roughly 5% of that cost. If gas is an average of $4/gal, the $0.20 tax would also be 5% of the cost, and would obviously increase as gas prices decrease (10% of the cost at $2/gal). A “fill up” for 60kWh would be about $1.25 compared to $4 for a 20 gallon tank.

Because electric are so much more efficient, even though they would pay a similar rate per energy unit, they consume less energy units and thus pay less tax at the “pump”. Charging at home is much cheaper more like $.10-.15/kWh

Now if we just look at the hybrid/electric fee relative to the gas tax - For the $120/year full electric fee, at $.20/gallon that assumes 600 gallons of fuel you could have bought. At 20 mi/gallon that assumes 12,000 miles/year driven. Just rough math to show this tax pretty much would offset an average drivers gas tax, before considering sales tax on electricity purchases.

These “hybrid fees” are total bullshite. My “Hybrid 4runner” is an $80 fee in MS. The car gets 23 MPG. Hardly a gas sipper. It’s more for power and torque, and not gas savings.

Meanwhile I could get a gas Honda civic and get 40 MPG with no fee.

It’s a complete money grab.

Thought the state repealed that $60. The legislature is trying to support EVs.

Suspended until august 1 of 2027

You’re complaining about 120 bucks a year but what about the oilfield Americans that lose their job because you aren’t doing your part as an American by buying gasoline?

Yes the government does have their dumbasses working there.. But the one that might top them are mortgage companies.. They will go through an escrow analysis knowing they don't have all the info.. Send out a surplus check then ask for you to physically bring it back to them.. I told them "that's not going to happen". They then keep claiming they never received the new homeowners policy when it has been sent to them 4 times... I still have never received the official paperwork on what my new payment is going to be and it is due today...

If there is an online option, it will be through a 3rd party (no doubt kickbacks come into play here) and a processing fee.
