Depends on how many you pay for.

SEACOR/OBrien was the contractor. They were in charge.

Everyone else were subs.

BP was paying the bills

Had to live and work on Grand Isle for several weeks. Sludging through all that oil on the beach and finding dead marine life was incredibly depressing.

I think I remember reading this, but haven't seen it again since, but was there a fishing boat fishing the rig or real close to it that gave an account of what they saw? Link if possible. Thanks.

Using this logic BP had nothing to do with the Deepwater Horizon explosion or spill.

Yeah but BP employee John Malkovich told us...

"Ders no pressure on da kill line! No flow, we good to go!"

I remember the M/TV Board going in hard on that movie, especially Mark Wahlbergs character and how it would compare to his real life job on a rig.

It's complete bullshite. The maintenance crew knows nothing about what the drill crew does. They hardly associate with each other at the rig except during meal times.

There wasn’t a single Laosian in the movie. Everyone knows that those dudes cook and clean. Also, how did they fit everyone onto one life boat. Stupid Hollywood

I will say the drill shack and rig floor were very authentic. Although, that rig floor looked a little too clean

Was a ROV pilot out there on one of the main intervention boats. We cut the riser, landed the top kill, among other things. It was truely a sight to see being out there.

I know several people who got very large checks for the claimed "impact on their business." These businesses are located far, far away from the coastline.

I could've done the same, but I have an aversion to fraud.

If you owned a business in SOuthbeast La you were getting paid. If you filed a claim.

No, if you were one of the industries not excluded and could show a loss of variable profit in 2010 (and subject to many other pros and cons) you would get paid. That’s a massive over simplification though.

Many business owners got paid and many well deserving business owners got fricked.

Example, if a business owner started losing business from the spill but worked himself into an early grave or extreme anxiety breakdown and managed to keep losses minimal, would get zero.

Lost a ton of business after the spill and weren’t able to recover by 2011? Virtually fricked (crazy hoops to jump through).

Business failed, weren’t able to keep it going? Even more fricked.

That’s the settlement BP agreed to and it’s not fraud. Business don’t operate in isolation and the effects of something that massive weren’t isolated to the coast. There are business all over the state far from the coast that could potentially trace losses to the spill. A lot of deserving businesses got fricked too. So there’s a lot of give and take both ways.

There was a guy that was on it who posted on the MTV board when the movie came out. Basically said the main character was nothing like he was in the film IRL.

I know a rice farmer in Vermilion Parish who got $100k. He is known to be the human equivalent of a cockroach so it surprised nobody that he swindled that money.

I hope he has to pay back every penny of it one day. Take what you need but need what you take.

Yeah, a lot. They covered up a lot of shite, I helped to bring some of it to light, and then noticed black suburbans following me, etc. and was reminded I like to hunt and fish a lot, often by myself an accidents do happen. I have a family so I backed off big time.

I talked to head people at gulf coast research lab as they have been friends fir deades and they told me early on “ No matter what you hear me say publicly, the truth is we have no way to model anything like this. It will take at least 10 years maybe even 20 before we know the full impact of this”

I’m the opening lines of the movie talking with Mike Williams. Roughest 18 months of work in my life between the political side and talking to those families and coworkers who lost loved ones. Hopefully my work (and many others) prevents another incident like that forever.

I agree with this. I was once the rig electrician on a TODCO drilling rig. We didn’t communicate much with the drilling. But I will say the part in the movie where Mark Wahlberg was talking about all the broken equipment was very accurate on my rig. That was one reason I left that field of work. Those darn gas detectors were screwing up all the time.
