We are looking at around 5-10% growth. Some operators like BP and XTO will be doubling their rig count in 2019. I hear the Eagleford and Powder River basins will be two of the bigger growth areas. Noble is planning to ramp up in CO. We just completed a ton of engineering for them. Now that proposition 112 was voted down they are free to drill away.

Hit me up in Q1 and I'll get your resume.

I work in a Subsea controls... Deepwater Horizon happened before I graduated, but I’ve met a couple guys while offshore who were some of the first ROV pilots on scene..

Couldn’t imagine man, that’s why I prefer to be on installation vessels, they don’t blow up.

I’m rewatching deepwater horizon right now, lol at marky Mark wearing short sleeves on the rig floor, throwing a coin overboard and casually having a conversation with everyone on board the chopper.

I’m not your son buddy.

But I do genuinely care about your thoughts. So thanks for sharing pal.

I did feel guilty friend. I think I made that clear. But I can’t really trust a human who decided to name himself dickLeverage to understand much now can I?

How you think so many people got rich???

Using this logic BP had nothing to do with the Deepwater Horizon explosion or spill.

BP contracted/subbed Transocean, Halliburton and a number of other companies to drill and cement the well. BP only had about 5 employees even on the Horizon. Transocena, Halliburton and other service companies make a lot of money all over the world doing this for oil companies.

Obrien’s was one of hundreds maybe a few thousand companies hired to work the response.

I was on the team that audited the oil spill claims Big 4 not P&N, after a ton of fraudulent claims came through. It was a bit ridiculous to see how far people went to try and claim “losses related to the spill”. Personally, I caught two claims in 4 months that would have paid out well over 1mm a piece. The numbers worked. Fit the model, almost too perfectly. Called them and the GM cracked. It was as if they submitted and just thought no one would look at it. Which is sad because I knew a number of others, specifically on the coast, that were impacted severely and only got minimal payouts compared to others in Atlanta with zero imact to their industry.

Thanks for all of the responses guys, definitely some interesting info.

For those of you in the industry, do you think another Deepwater Horizon type of event will eventually happen in the Gulf, or have the drilling and oil companies actually sought to prevent it from ever happening again?

Safety buckling down enormously combined with the lack of deepwater projects makes me think it won't for awhile. But people will get lazy again.

A contractor subs out everything when building a house, but he still is in charge.

If it’s still available, it will take you days to go through the original DWH thread.

Doubtful anything like that will happen in the forseeable future. Safety was greatly increased and the factory land drilling has crippled the offshore market. No growth projected in 2019, no rigs being built and many are being scrapped because the cost if upkeep is too much. Some of the latest generation rigs have never been tested to see if they can be shut down and restarted later.

Shame because I spent the majority of my career offshore and enjoyed it.

Everyone is ramping up in CO before Polis’s administration starts clamping down one click at a time.

COGCC is getting flooded with APD/Form 2 and 2As. The 2019 rush is on.

Can’t say it never will, but with increased safety measures, procedures, cultures, etc and continued technology advancements, it should be even more preventable than before.

Loss of well control is the industry’s biggest nightmare incident that could happen, on or offshore.
