I learned from the movie that John Malkovich could probably one day do a kickass performance as James Carville, if asked to. I don’t know why anyone would want Carville represented in a movie, but if it happened, JM is the man for it.

That’s the truth. If you owned a business in SOuthbeast La you were getting paid. If you filed a claim. The further south you were, the bigger the check was. My buddy worked for the accounting firm handling payouts and told me. And told me again. And again. He literally cornered me at at the LSU bama tailgate a few years back bc I kept blowing him off and said you can ignore it but you’re ignoring tens of thousands of dollars. And if they don’t give it to you they’ll give it to someone else. So I slept on it that night and decided to file the paperwork. Did it myself, no attorney involved. Pretty easy and they sent me 40K. I def didn’t deserve that. But they wanted to give it me and I had a hard time turning it down. Let the downvotes reign. And if I lived a mile further south I would have been in a different zone and the Payout would have been even higher. Crazy really.

And for everyone thinking I’m a bad person for doing that, I hear where you’re coming from. But it’s easy to say. I didn’t expect anything and only filled out paperwork bc I was literally hounded by a guy on the inside who knew a lot more than me. And to my surprise he was right. There was no call or anything. Just mailed a check. When they sent me the letter with big check I felt guilty honestly. But let me give you that check and see if your hand it back. You probably won’t. Money talks. Always has and always will.

Yep I believe the financial test was just that your income dropped in a certain time span then recovered in a certain timespan. It kinda coincided with how the overall economy was at the time so all these companies got money that probably weren’t directly effected, atleast in my area.

There were law firms that all you had to do was submit them your financials a few years before and a few years after, they had accountants on staff, didn’t cost you a thing. They would even go to your CPA’s office and go through the files at no charge so your CPA wouldn’t bill you.

If they found you had a legit claim they would do all the work. Then they would charge anywhere from 17%-25% of the awarded claim.

It was just a big pot of money. The amount was settled. It was just who got some of it.

The lawyers effed up the contract lingo and said something along the lines of "Any company that lost money during this time period has a right to claim." Didn't specify relating to the spill.

The LA legal team suing BP specifically told them this was a bad idea. BPs great lawyers from oxford, Cambridge and Harvard wanted to be generous to the state and apply payouts to the entire state.

3-6 months after initial settlement BPs lawyers tried to limit the payouts, but fortunately the plaintiff team had filed the paperwork on the initial discussions and the judge said tough shite.

That’s a lot of explanation for a guy who knows he wasn’t really impacted but kept the $40k for himself instead of doing the honorable thing by giving it to a few people whose businesses were severely impacted. I am surprised you actually told the story. Sounds like you had the guilty feeling when it happened and could have done something good to help some folks but just let greed win out. Disappointed in ya son.

From the instrumentation side of things, BP overengineers anything and everything since then. Overkill but I don’t blame them.

Well if you are in good with any of the recruiters I can always send you a resume to pass long.

What are yalls forecasts looking like for the industry in general next yr? Most operators are looking at keeping the status quo in regards to spending?

They paid money for residual impacts and flat rates per industry. You submit your financials and THEY determine if they pay you a settlement or not. Reds did nothing wrong and it didn’t mean someone else didn’t get paid.

I was on a Carnival cruise shortly after the spill and I could see all of the oil in the water in the Gulf.

That's my personal story.

It was determined that he was actually impacted. That’s why they gave him the money.

The businesses that were severely impacted like you mentioned also got their fair share.

I bet you voted for Obama didn’t you?
