Nah, I wouldn't want to. Negative vibes.

Hell yeah especially if I could get it for 25% less than what it was valued before the crime happened.

I'd try to get as much taken off as possible. "Look, I really like this house, but my wife is doesn't feel comfortable about it.. If I can get it a little cheaper, it will help me be able to talk her into buying it" or some bullshite.

Then I would paint the outside a shade of blue (blue is a color that generates trustworthiness and inviting).

Then completely change the landscape. I don't want people who see it on a regular basis to see it as "the house a family was slaughtered in".

Make the inside as welcoming as possible with something that will grab the attention of people that seems "really cool". Have a neighborhood party as soon as its finished (people will come out of curiosity and leave looking forward to coming back).

Lets just keep the math simple. Let's say the value of it before the family was killed was $200k. I get it for $175k. I'd put $15k into it.. So I would have spent $190k and then wait about 2 years and try to sell it for about $225k.

That's $35k (not factoring in inflation over 2 years, which wouldn't be that much).

You spent a lot of time measuring that response.

Absolutely. Why would an event affecting people I didn’t know ( provided that the crime left no trace whatsoever) keep me from taking advantage of a good deal?

I don't think I'd give a shite.

Might put up some kind of a plaque or something, like one of those historical marker jobs.

Maybe they ghost(s) would be friendly. I didn’t kill them; why should they haunt me?

I’d do it

To save money, hell yeah, but I'm cheap. A man in his late 60's died in my current house. Had a heart attack while sitting at the kitchen table and died instantly. I don't believe in ghosts and haven't been haunted by him yet, so it's all good.

I've pondered this often.
This is how I'd rank each:

1. "Regular" death.i.e. old man has heart attack in bed: no problems, 100% ease to move in.

2. Suicide: Depending on gruesomeness, probably still no problems, 90% ease.

3. Domestic case murder: a little weird, 70% ease.

4. Robbery with murder, especially a particularly bad story one like a hostage type situation: getting pretty uneasy, 40%

5. Local, state "famous" case, one that is a story in the city, perhaps state. Getting no good. May have onlookers, gawkers. 20%

6. National Jon Benet Ramsay type murder? 0%
Too much distraction with photos,etc.

What's the odds of that happening twice in the same house?

Higher than you would think in BR.

A guy I went to school with killed his mom and tried to kill his dad in their house. Years later, an LSU administrator later moved into that house and a student tried to kill him there.

Just has to be cheap enough to turn profit down the line. Don’t want to pay a 10% reduction and find myself having to sell at 20% off later

There is a really large house at the end of White Oak Landing before South Harrell’s Ferry in Baton Rouge where a gold-digging wife paid for some contract killer to murder her husband. A few years before the murder, I was 15 and had just gotten my permit and would drive with my dad to school every day, before he went to his job. Anyways, we used to see her every day chain smoking next to her kids while they waited for a bus.

I remember my dad and I would occasionally comment on how the woman always had a cigarette in her hands before 7:45 in the morning. Also it was clear that she was a stay at home type yet couldn’t be bothered to drive her kids to school.

Anyways, I went to college and at some point she had her husband killed for lowering her monthly allowance or something. She was soon caught and probably sentenced to life (I hope), and I know they had a hell of a time selling the house. It’s huge, one of the biggest in the area, and newer than almost all of them. Ultimately it was sold to a guy who was moving from another city, so clearly it’s a big factor in people’s decision.

My first house had a elderly lady die in it and she was dead for about 2 weeks before a welfare check was done. She didn’t have any family close, if any at all.

The hardwood floors had to be redone because she was laying on the floor. It was weird at first but it wore off. The neighbors all said she was a sweet lady and great neighbor. She didn’t/couldn’t have children and would be happy to know a young family chose her home.
