Other than a few areas, I don't feel unsafe in New Orleans, but I know there's always a reasonable chance. I've been robbed or held up on Nashville Ave. near St. Charles, in City Park leaving a high School football game, and at Gentilly and Franklin in the 1980s when it was a nice neighborhood. I've had friends held up near the universities and in the Garden District.
The best move I made was out of the city to the Northshore 17 years ago. Different world.

There was a study done a few years ago that showed that the average person could cover 21 feet of ground in less than 3 seconds.
That being said I would be pretty tempted to shoot that bastard after he started to walk away and still claim that I was in fear of my life.

as far as I know they don't turn credit tips into a check to give to employees, then it would be documented income, and would ruin the ruse of being able to pay waiters less than minimum wage because they make up for it in tips, and would ruin the ruse of waiters claiming WAY less than they make to avoid taxes
I can tell you for a fact I've worked at several establishments in Nola and BR over the years that did this as a waiter and bartender and I've been a manager that signed the checks at the service staff at the end of the week with their credit card tips added on it.
What 'ruse'? Income is taxable including tips.

New York was able to clean it up and turn things around.
Why can't NOLA?

Not at the time, but those events sent me to the Van Buren Boys, and down my path of self destruction.

NOLA absolutely can clean up and turn itself around. Under the right leadership it could be an extremely desireable place.
But it's done nothing but go downhill. And that's a damn shame.

In the age of social media, the internet would actually implode if a mayor attempted to implement Giuliani's policies in a majority black city like New Orleans

How would you know his name? Is this an inside job?
Or is it some super polite, but slightly stupid thief. "Hello, my name is Jim Smith. Nice to meet you. Now gimme yo muhfuggin money!"

It is the Wild Wild West in these cities now.
Time to police it the way they did back in the day.

Unfortunately, these cities are all run by democrats who think all their police officers should be a combination of ninja, pacifist, counselor, expert marksman, soothsayer, social scientist, doctor of philosophy, martial arts expert, mind reader, racecar driver, school teacher and SJW all rolled into one. Basically, they think their cops should be the equivalent of an OT 10.

Washington gets sketchy by Tchoupitoulas and lakeside of st Charles, but that's New Orleans.
Which is ridiculous. Tchoupitoulas is just right down the street. Walking distance. That's how close this prime blue blood real estate is to a sketch area. And even closer on lakeside of St Charles. So it's not a surprise when this shite happens.

Yep. There really isn't anywhere in Orleans where you aren't less than a ten minute walk from at least one shite hole--even Audubon place is only 7-8 blocks from the neighborhood formerly known as "N*Town". I suppose Lakeview is isolated from the bullshite, but it's really just Metairie with higher property taxes.
