The point here is that the PD is extremely understaffed.

Mentally, I have left awhile ago. Finally, my body has caught up and I am actively planning to leave.

Sadly, the Garden District isn't immune to crime. I have a buddy whose car was stolen on Eighth (in-between Prytania and Coliseum). Also, during my last year in New Orleans, I've had an acquaintance that had her door kicked in and had a few minor valuables taken from her house on Pleasant St.
More so, wasn't a younger girl (high schooler I believe) either picked up and raped or dropped off by the Starbucks (Washington Ave and Magazine) a year or two ago?

And?
People die of old age in Syria. Doesn't make it safe. No matter how shitty and crime ridden a place is, the vast majority of people are not directly affected.
I love New Orleans and make frequent trips there. I just purposefully chose to take a trip elsewhere, though. Not worth it.

You realize all of Washington Ave isn't all the same right? Same with Jackson, same with Toladano, etc
I do realize that, and Washington Ave. by where Commander's Palace sits is generally safer than the rest of Washington Ave. It's a nice-looking area. But things have been getting dicey in the area for a while with the bad elements of certain parts of Washington Ave. and the surrounding areas creeping in.
I might live closer to Washington than almost anyone on here, so I keep up with the crime. Just 9 months ago two of Commander's chefs were robbed just a short distance away by a guy that was robbing everyone in the vicinity. Some dude was shot to death inside of Verret's Lounge last year (which is not some ghetto hangout) and that's in the 1700 block of Washington (Commander's Palace is in the 1400 block which is obviously not that far away). Although parts of Washington Ave. are very nice, the surrounding area mess has been creeping in.

I've noticed there aren't many nola defenders in these threads anymore. Mitch and his statue bullshite was probably the last straw for a lot of people.

New Orleans has a serious violent crime problem.
The mayor needs an arse kicking too.

People get mugged on oak street regularly, crimes like that aren't close to uncommon for that area

Brah, you know Washington Avenue between St. Charles and Magazine is dead in the center of some of the most prime real estate in the city. Maybe only The area bounded by Jefferson/Audubon Park/st Charles/magazine plus a few blocks of palmer/Calhoun/state on the lake side of st Charles are more expensive, blue blood neighborhoods than that ~20 square block area. Washington gets sketchy by Tchoupitoulas and lakeside of st Charles, but that's New Orleans. The area where these robberies are occurring is about as expensive as it gets.
I didn't say anything about that part of Washington not being nice. I just said that Washington Ave. as a whole is not real safe and the bad elements have been creeping in. I think there were three murders on Washington Ave. just last year. When it's that close by, things start getting sketchy. It's got nothing to do with how big the mansions are or how much money people make in those areas.
And if you look at the ridiculous house prices in this area, you'd think all of New Orleans is prime real estate. It's not - there are just a lot of suckers out there.
