I got robbed at gunpoint by a kid jumping out of a car in much the same way, a block behind the Columns Hotel outside a party at a judge's house. That was the early 90s, when crime in NOLA and in many cities was at its height. I am not leaving NOLA and am not worried about my or my family's safety in general. But it appears we are getting back to a 90s crime level where a certain element feels desperate enough to pull these type of robberies and confident enough of escape. It is time for the City Council and Mayor candidates to start talking specifically about what they are going to do about it.

My apologies for not having the statistics on that specific neighborhood on hand, but that doesn't negate the fact that crime in New Orleans is abysmal

Yes crime is abysmal but I'm just asking if you know if these types of crimes are common in this particular neighborhood.

I know some areas are much worse than others and people tend to stay away and move away from those areas.

Do you know if this is one of those areas the residents should be concerned about?

The numbers alone spell out that things are lawless. NOPD had 500 more cops in 2010, with nearly 100,000 less people living in the city. Murder is way up, etc.

Find the stats on race to race. When that changes, then it'll be on.

I do. Yes, it should be.

Crime is not neighborhood specific, ESPECIALLY in New Orleans. If crime is an issue for the city, it's an issue for everyone. People living in Audubon Place have to leave their neighborhood to go out to eat sometime...so crime is a factor for them too.

I live in an area of the city I'm in that has a higher crime rate than the average area, statistically. I can tell you without a doubt that I feel safer walking down the street at night than I do in almost any neighborhood in New Orleans.

My parents own a home in New Orleans. I love coming in and staying there. I'm lucky to be able to have the opportunity. But I'm always looking over my shoulder walking home at night. And they don't own a home in the projects.

So, are you saying as long as blacks are only victims of crime that things are kosher?

I'm all over the city, walking/biking, night/day, I look like I have more than $4 in my pocket and am never uneasy feeling like things are completely lawless like the OT would have you believe.

I am too, but lately I feel like I've been naive and lucky.

Yes we know. You've mentioned it 5 times in this thread alone and about 500 other times in other threads. We get it. Your parents own a home in New Orleans. I own 3. What do I win?

Not at all. Just saying if you deduct the black on black crime, the stats might not look so dim.

Because even facing a 5% chance at a murder charge is worth the contents of you wallet and your significant others life....

We know. They own a home in the French Quarter. Which has just as much crime as New Orleans East, dumbass.

That's a fair point. I think I mention it because I try to avoid people claiming that I'm some yankee that doesn't know what I'm talking about.

Consider that point closed. I'll even give you an up vote.

But my point is valid. New Orleans is crime riddled and it's become a problem to the point where it doesn't matter what affluent neighborhood you live in. It's everywhere.

That's what I can't understand. Who in the hell is going to support a former mayor, 4 years removed, from fricking New Orleans? He wasn't even a good LT Governor
