Don't call me ma'am (or sir), it makes me feel old

I can open my own car door.

Don't call me Miss/Mrs (or Mister)

You Holding the door makes me look helpless

It's your jacket, you wear it, I'm fine

I don't need an umbrella, or, just let me hold it

I could list dozens of phrases, mostly from women, that I have personally heard that discourage manners and chivalry and invite false familiarity.

I can't count how many people have instructed my kids to NOT use yes ma'am/no sir or to call them by their first names with no Miss or Mister.

It sucks.

To the boomer op'er: imagine thinking this anecdotal event is only because chivalry is dead on behalf of these no good dog shite young men and has not a thing to do with the actions of women and pandering, effeminate men.

How fitting. Nothing new, but fitting.

It wasn't that long ago where it was a legitimate fear for men not over the age of 65 (who actually were creeps) that feared some crazy, SSRI-riddled, miserable woman looking for validation as an, "influencer," was going to me-too him for leaning in for a kiss back in '04.

These young men (especially white ones) have been told their entire lives that they're a privileged, toxic, useless, sorry, no-good piece of racist and sexist shite, and that their bloodlines (and by default they themselves) have contributed nothing to society except death and despair, especially by women. And now you and your new girlfriend who made your dick wake up are all aghast that these young men met you on your own terms and disengaged?

Be damned if they do, be damned if they don't. I feel bad for em'.

I hold the door for everyone because I was raised in the south, but I'm not a young man in college: They're a piece of shite, toxic problematicus male since they were old enough to pick up on innuendo, and one thing about men, as long as we're not pandering to get pussy, insane, on drugs, or all three, is we will react logically and match your energy. So why are you surprised?

I'll tell you why: you're out of touch with reality.

On the flip side, I hate that anxiety you get when you look back when entering a door and there's people slightly outside your door-holding time threshold.

You're faced with that choice of "do I sit here and wait like an awkward idiot, or pretty much let this door eventually close right in their face by the time they get here?" Then you have to face them inside and feel like a POS that can't make eye contact if you let it close

Women traded families and chivalry for gender quotas and corporate promotions.

They wanted to be free from men.

Chivalry died when it started to just mean doting on women.
