it blows my mind when people let someone "adjust" their necks
You ever had someone do that properly? Feels goodman.
This. And the back adjustment where they basically lay you on your belly and do CPR on your back. Just one compression though. shite is legit.
That being said I do go to a guy who has massage therapists in office. All I pay I see my co pay and get a 30 minute massage then adjusted. If you aren't getting a massage, you're doing it wrong IMO.

What you think of as a "doctor" is actually a physician
If a diner in a restaurant is choking and someone screams for a doctor, they don't mean a PhD in Gender Studies or a Chiropractor.
I think the use of the word "doctor" by chiropractors is to draw equivalency to a real medical professional. The PhD in Gender Studies by education level.

I have a 4 month old who has had some minor "issues" with eating and body stiffness. My wife is on a Facebook group on moms where there are multiple people who recommended taking our baby to a chrio. I'm the most laid back guy, but when my wife told me she wanted to consult a chiro I said absolutely not and was close to telling her if she stepped foot in a chiro's office with our baby I would be filing for divorce and custody. I wish I could get her to leave that Facebook group with all those dumb bitches who have nothing else to do but sit at home and worry/post about their kid.

Don't chiropractors call themselves doctors?
Not an MD or DO. Not even a dentist. Just pure quack.
They have a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC). So, they can call themselves "doctors". The DC programs require the same prerequisite courses that medical/dental school require for the most part. It's basically 4 years of training. All that being said, I wouldn't let one touch me.

I know there's many people out there who swear by the positive results, but really chiropractors only offer a temporary solution, and rarely ever actually solve the core problem, they treat the symptoms
Not disagreeing with you, but if you think true Medical Dr.s are doing anything different, you're kidding yourself. You'd be hard pressed to find an MD that treats the 'core problem' on a visit. They throw an Rx to help the symptoms and move on to the next appt.

RN for 17 years, NP for 3. Have worked ER for over 13 years and now have worked the past 2 years at a clinic that is set up like I described.
I’ve seen countless people come to us as what they consider a last resort and in a matter of a few weeks, they’re in the least amount of pain that be had in _____ months/years.
Many patients say they’ve been told that their only other alternative is surgery.
Before I started working there, all I knew about chiropractic care was from reading things like I’m reading here. Never even knew someone who had received chiro care.

They're not medical doctors, I'm sure many of us know "that one dumbass from high school that grew up to be a chiropractor" that now calls himself/herself "doctor."
Well, yeah. No medical professional that isnt a Medical Doctor is a Medical Doctor.

I agree with that. I personally didn't experience much relief from going but My younger brother swears that the only thing that has helped his back is going to a chiropractor and I've known many who say the same

That is not evidence for any of that working.

Quacks? Placebo? Maybe, but after having neck and shoulder pain for years, I had an MRI done showing disc bulge. Doctor gave me pain meds. Didn't help. Then more pain meds. Didn't help. Then pain meds and physical therapy. Nope. Doctor said I needed surgery. Didn't want to go thru that. Went to a chiropractor. After a few weeks, I'm pain free with no meds now for years.
And I will say, my chiro said that many issues require surgery or a medical doctor.

I've had good experiences with Chiros. But like any profession, some are better than others. I would never go to one without getting recs from other people I trust.

Bunch of skeered to try things Peeps in here. I might go to my Chiro 1-2 times a year. Get lined out and I’m good to go.
Highly recommended you get a good non-ambulance chasing one.

I want to go with you on this, but my brother had a real positive experience with his Chiro after a real bad car accident about 20 years ago. He could hardly walk he was in so much pain, he went to orthos and they just gave him pain meds, and the PT's he had been going to only helped a little.
He went to Chiropractor on Vets in Metairie, and after about 3.5 hours in the place, he walked out without help. He kept going to the guy for about 9 months and today has very little pain.

yes, any respectable PhD is going to do what they can to provide instant relief from whatever ailment. I also have had every PhD genuinely concerned to do what they could to prevent reoccurring visits for the same issue. There was a long term goal to fix the problem
Chiropractor's long term health goal: just keep coming back

This is exactly the problem. They don't solve/cure anything. If in my practice I told a patient they just needed to come back and see me weekly/monthly for a tune up they'd tell me to go frick myself and find a different doctor.
But if you made them watch a DVD with testimonials that specifically say "I wasn't cured after just one treatment, you can expect 6,7...10 sessions" maybe people wouldn't care. I went to a chiro office with my wife who was looking for some relief after an accident and I shite you not he sat us down to watch an intro DVD. You set the bar real low like a chiropractor and you too can start selling people on anything.

You want me to link a journal article? You can do that, but how is that even considered “evidence”? Any evidence that you or I could find in any journal article about anything in the medical field or otherwise can be disproved by another journal article that has evidence to disprove the other article.
I’ve read hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of various medical articles from all different sources about all different things in my career. I take the information and apply it as I see fit to each individual patient that I come across, but what I have experienced and witnessed firsthand has taught me a lot more than anything I’ve read.

One size does not fit all
To each his own
If the treatment doesn't work for a person's issue don't go
If the treatment does work for a person's issue then so be it
It's a person's own decision to make
