never a good idea to go near streets named after presidents or indians in BR

You really think a joke about plumber butt is funny? Some of you are easily entertained.

I worked that area for years and always made sure to get out of there well before dark. It's a damn shame. Horrible.
It has deteriorated so much now that it doesn’t matter what time of day you’re there, you’re still in serious harm’s way by physically just being there.

I had a client that had an office in that area, he asked me to come by for a consult. I told him I wasn't available.

BR is such a sewer. Did Sid's request to use library funds to hire more police get anywhere? Or did the library pearl clutchers throw a hissy fit and get the plan nixed?

It is still being debated.

I will say from my experience that most people in North Baton Rouge are genuinely good folks that have to deal with this type of frickery day in and day out.

Actually, BRPD did great work in rough areas of the city during the mid 1980s through the 1990s. Some thugs and T-shirt shops in Mall city area made it very personal and outraged law enforcement at all levels to the point they started a movement to take targeted areas back. There were programs of street narcotics interdiction was critical at gathering helpful information and communicating a message that crime was not being allowed, street gang task force was documenting gang influence and often solved murders in 48 hours, operation take down was getting rid of nuisance properties which had great effects. Some areas began to be communities again. But the political will melted over time and the sewer won the debate.
Seriously, there was hope, but BR is what it chose to be.

They vote for it, they tolerate it, they empower it.
If "most" people were against it, then it wouldn't happen.

Basically every time.
I remember this story from 1978 when a Jefferson Parish deputy shot and killed a plumber who was working in the crawlspace under a house. That Mardi Gras, people wore shirts that said “Don’t shoot - I’m just a plumber.”
quote:
Dennis Gordon, an honor graduate of the parish police academy, was charged with shooting Donald Herkes. on Jan. 30 while searching for suspects in an attempted bank robbery. One-deputy was killed in the robbery. If convicted, Mr. Gordon sould be sentenced to five years in prison.
Mr. Herkes and his brother, Robert, were working under a house near the Metairie Bank and Trust Company when Parish deputies and New Orleans policemen converged on the scene, looking for two men who had tried to rob the bank.
Robert Herkes said the officers shouted for them to come out from under the house and when Donald emerged with plumbing tools in his hands, he was shot.

I worked in the area this shooting occurred (off Adams ST) in the mid 90's and can remember BRPD setting up random traffic checkpoints, checking ID's and running licenses for warrants. I dont recall ever seeing that anywhere else before or since. I dont remember ever feeling unsafe during the day but I was also young and naïve.

That day is rapidly coming... Soon Cops, Firemen, Postal workers, Utility workers, delivery drivers etc.. will soon start staying away from specific areas of town due to increased dangers.

GD shame.
If the local authorities truly know the "small minority of individuals" committing this heinous bullshite, it's time to stop the games and put an end to them. They will never become respected pillars of the local community. Not tomorrow, not ever. They will always be the violent trash they are- and are busy transforming others into.
This town is a wasteland not unlike Northern Mexico. Maybe even worse, in some parts. It's just the truth.
