Cats all day.

Potty trained at 6 weeks old. Can leave for 4+ days leaving food and water w/o a pet sitter. I like dogs, but cats are way more convenient IMHO.

Get them young and mold their personality and they will be worth the investment

I've got nothing against cats but that aint happening. You might luck out and get a cool cat but they are pretty much untrainable and will do whatever the hell the feel like doing.

My mom keeps water spray bottles around the house and sprays her cat whenever it does something bad. She's been doing this for over 10 years. I'm like "mom, have you not figured out the damn cat can't be trained?"

You're right about being able to dump a bag of cat food in a bowl and jet off for the weekend though. That's where dogs become a burden - when you need to travel.

I love my dog & will be devastated when she’s gone but sometimes it would be nice to not have to hurry home to feed or let her out

My wife and I actually had this discussion last night. We have both and love both but there are pros and cons to each. She was still 50/50 after discussion but I lean toward dogs because I think they are better companions. My example was when you are sick and stay in bed all day dogs will stay right with you and while they aren't very good nurses they won't leave your side. Cats on the other hand will hop up on the bed and give you a whack and "say" dance monkey and when you don't dance they will just scurry off to enjoy their day.

That said, I have never understood the testosterone-filled condescension toward cats though. Pound for pound they are absolute killing machines compared to dogs. They are like Tier 1 operators that make dogs look like Coyote doing his BJJ and taking a bath.

Dogs. But outside. Frickers smell like wet arse and feet.

Cats are too sporadic. One UT infection and you'd wish you never had one. Piss all over the house.

Cats because I like their interactions with us and other cats. And because we are out in the country and need at least three cats around the house to keep the mice from all the surrounding hay fields out of the house. (Yes, I know black snakes will come in and eat the mice, but it's my house, so no snakes.)

If our neighbors were bad, then a dog would have to be our choice. We shared a dog (the late, great Bonnie) with our next door neighbor and she watched over both houses. She ran away during a horrible lightening storm and she had always been scared of thunder, she may have been scared to death. We wish another Bonnie would wander up.

We have both because of my wife and kid.

The dog is a useless little shite about 10 pounds. She is always up my wife's arse, never more then a few steps away. The dog shits on the rug when you leave her alone and forget to put her in the crate or she gets mad The dog sheds all over the place. The dog doesn't like company and also yaps to much.

The cat is some kind of alpha predator. I think her daddy cat must have been a bobcat. The cat is tough as nails and takes care of herself. The cat will frick up a snake, bird, lizard, mouse you name it the cat will destroy it. The cat loves climbing trees and I see her way up high in some. The cat shits in its litter box which I change once a week. The cat has built her a nice little territory around the neighborhood and patrols it every day. I like watching the cat hunt. The cat likes to be petted but in limited fashion and then she goes and chills on her cat tower. The cat loves to have company over and very friendly with every human that comes around.

We are going out of town for the weekend. So tomorrow I got to drop the bitch dog off at the expensive pet hotel and pay out the arse. For the cat, I'm just leaving a big bowl of food and water and leaving.

I never thought I would say this, but I've become a cat person. They are so much easier to deal with, they do cool shite, and keep critters away from your house.

This. Plus they clean themselves and don't stink.
You don't have to walk them and pick up their crap from the neighbors yard.
They don't make a mess while eating or drinking.
If company comes usually they will go hide under a bed instead of spazzing out jumping all over people and sniffing people's crotches.
They are funny as hell to play with and can entertain themselves with just a bag/box or anything that has fallen to the floor.
Plus they don't bark at all hours of the night.
I could go on but these facts will get enough down votes.
