Correct, a cat cannot be used for security. If someone broke in my house, my cat would be hiding under a sweatshirt in the closet before the glass hit the floor.

Didn't care much for cats growing up, we always had one around. Grew up surrounded by dogs (smaller ones: beagles, Cocker Spaniels, etc.).
Decided to adopt a tiny black kitten about 17 years ago. Brought him home, and he moved in like he owned the house. He is awesome, low maintenance and always down to play. Literally follows me around everywhere, but if I'm busy with work he will just sleep right next to me waiting for his chance for some attention.
Still love dogs (and most animals) and plan on getting another one. My last dog died last year, also raised from a puppy. Dogs are awesome, but cats are smarter and more loyal that most people give them credit for.

How are all you people such bad owners that your dogs aren't potty trained. Mine never, ever has an accident. She can be left by herself at the house all day long while I work. The only things she gets into are kleenex (my fault because I left them laying around), potty water (sees it as a fountain, so I keep the door closed), and food left on the counter or table within her reach (I just keep it out of her reach).
Dogs are the most awesome things in the world. We don't deserve them.

False. I have a 4.5lb black cat that has a 7' vertical leap and razor blades for hands. It's the meanest mfer to anyone acting crazy in the house but chill AF as long as everyone's cool. In a pinch, I could throw her at an intruder and she would claw their eyes out while I leisurely grab a gun.

I have 4 cats and 3 dogs. They both have their perks. The cats are way lower maintenance but my dogs just love me so damned much.

You don't have to walk them and pick up their crap from the neighbors yard.
They don't make a mess while eating or drinking.
If company comes usually they will go hide under a bed instead of spazzing out jumping all over people and sniffing people's crotches.
They are funny as hell to play with and can entertain themselves with just a bag/box or anything that has fallen to the floor.
Plus they don't bark at all hours of the night.
