Failed attempt to carjack on-duty NOPD detective

quote:

A man tried to carjack an on-duty, plainclothes New Orleans police detective Sunday at a Lower Garden District intersection, apparently not realizing the would-be victim who pulled a gun in return was a police officer, according to authorities.

After the detective pulled a gun, Quinn Massey, 44, tried to run, but he was arrested before he could escape, police wrote in documents filed in Orleans Parish Criminal Court Monday.

quote:

The detective was in the Lower Garden District investigating a call that a man in a white shirt and camouflage shorts was pulling on car door handles, the court filings said. Police said that the detective had stopped at the corner of St. Mary Street and St. Charles Avenue when a man identified as Massey — clad in a white shirt and camo shorts — opened the passenger side of the detective’s unmarked police car and told him to get out of the vehicle.

Where do they go after stealing a car? Do they drive the vehicle with fake tags or take it to a chop shop?

They drive it to their 4-hour commitment at the soup kitchen, then to the public library to study, and finally clean the exterior and interior of the car before returning it to the rightful owner.

Wait, what? Unless I'm missing something, that's not carjacking in Louisiana. Carjacking, by definition, requires the use of "force or intimidation". Simply taking a car is Theft of a Motor Vehicle.

New Orleans is in a very bad place right now....just like a lot of cities in the US. Incompetent leadership, radical progressive DA's, activist judges, and a clearly divisive agenda in the media is taking its toll.

Victim shaming

The problem is the hoodlums, not the victim

Eh, to say that someone who leaves their door open with the engine running doesn't bear any responsibility in that situation is a bit ridiculous.

The new definition of carjacking in New Orleans includes taking a car that some dumbass left running.

The girlfriend of a guy I work with was carjacked last Monday. Held her up with a rifle. Found the car in Nola east later that night but with tons of damage. They did fill up the tank for her though.

Sometimes I hesitate from linking to statutory law on here, because some of our criminal statutes are painfully dense, but carjacking is extremely straightforward:

quote:

§64.2. Carjacking

A. Carjacking is the intentional taking of a motor vehicle, as defined in R.S. 32:1(40), belonging to another person, in the presence of that person, or in the presence of a passenger, or any other person in lawful possession of the motor vehicle, by the use of force or intimidation.

B. Whoever commits the crime of carjacking shall be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than two years and for not more than twenty years, without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

Acts 1993, No. 488, §1.

Went to dinner in the FQ last week. I thought about bringing my gun but decided not to. I'd bet that new DA would prosecute the shite out of any white guy shooting a black guy carrying out an armed robbery.

You have to understand this is what they WANT. Hence the elections of Williams and other "progressive" DAs and Judges and the "defund the police" movement.

Soft on Crime stances by DAs and Judges in the guise of progressivism leads to out of control crime.

Defunding police leaves a huge vacuum.

Out of control crime leads to cries of a broken system.

A broken system leads to what they really want:

The Federal Government taking control of all local police forces.

Well apparently New Orleans native and current Sr Advisor to President Biden, Cedric Richmond, just recently said this is all the fault of the NRA.

I just looked him up on the OPP inmate search and he was charged with ATT FIRST DEGREE ROBBERY.

Is that the same as attempted carjacking? Or it was because he didnt actually have a gun, he just pretended like he did

Apparently nothing can fix a broken big government like even bigger and bigger government can.

This line of thinking is a very clear indication that there’s a severe lack of reasoning and processing of information that is plaguing this country, and by a lot of very dumb people who also vote.

In short, we’re in deep shite.
