Carjackings in New Orleans are the worst in a decade.

Crime skyrocketing in both NOLA and BR, and the common denominator is the lack of leadership, placating and pandering to the criminal elements in both cities. Completely ineffectual and BRoken. Combine that with a silly leader at the state level and you have what you see before you…. A CLUSTER…. Elections very much DO have consequences, and you’re witnessing those consequences right now. If the adults don’t get the power back I’m afraid the children in control right now will make it completely unlivable in no time flat.

New Orleans has seen more carjackings over the last 12 months than during any comparable period in the past decade. According to a Times-Picayune analysis, there have been 240 carjackings investigated in the city during the last 12 months, which is 120% higher than the year before and more than 160% above the average over the last decade.

Where do they go after stealing a car? Do they drive the vehicle with fake tags or take it to a chop shop?

This. One of the many things I've learned about the criminal types after serving on a Grand Jury for four months now.

The mayor is going to create a task force to study the problem.

Really has me thinking about renting a car to go to NOLA instead of taking my own.
237 cars out of 200,000 cars on the road in New Orleans.
One has a greater chance of catching Covid.
Typical Media fake hype just to get clicky clicks.........

they go through it looking for guns, drugs and money, then commit other crimes, shoot people on the interstate, smoke weed and joy ride..then dump it

Used car parts are skyrocketing due to shortages in new car stock. Certain vehicles are actually appreciating.
I wonder who is behind the scenes chopping and shipping these cars?

No one is "chopping" these cars.... At best, they're stealing the "Cadillac Converters"

Most likely the end result....

Victim shaming
The problem is the hoodlums, not the victim

For all the attention murder rates get, this is, in my opinion, more of a problem. The overwhelming majority of murders are targeted and intentionally directed at someone the individual knows. I'm obviously not defending the behavior, but it generally doesn't affect "random" people.
Carjackings, on the other hand, are almost always "random" in nature, which causes a far broader societal effect. If NOLA doesn't get this under control, I could see it having a vastly more significant effect on both residency and tourism than any previous runs of "violent crime".
