I constantly have to lay on the horn at people coming at me on Highland Road.

Next time try an experiment.

Make sure no one is coming the opposite way and go over the yellow line with your tires.

See how far over these frickers are with no fricks given to have a 100 mph head on collision? (Each car going 50 in opposite directions for the force vector uneducated). There’s no way they are not on their phone or distracted by a huge ipad on the dash.

And it’s 99/100 they drift to the inside. Almost never to the outside.

Yep. Told this story before, but in 2015 my wife and I almost died. In our case it was a drunk crossed the center line over a small hill. I barely got away from a head on collision. He sideswiped me and blew out my driver's side tires, buckled in my door and threw us across the road and into a tree head on.
When I came to, there was smoke in the cab and my initial reaction was a fire. My door wouldn't open, so I got my seat belt off, got my wife unbuckled and pushed her out her door and crawled out behind her. It turned out it was airbag dust, but I didn't know till we got out.

I now am very sensitive to oncoming traffic and constantly am watching their tires. Anyone who crosses onto the yellow gets my horn.

Speeding (way over)
Aggressive driving
Over half the trucks I see on the Basin bridge are in the left lane … passing the other half obeying truck restrictions.
Troopers are no where to be seen.

But nothing happens. Nothing. There’s no consequences. My wife and kids got sideswiped on 55 two years ago. Wife was approaching the 55/12 interchange and moved over to the left hand lane approaching the cloverleaf to allow people taking the interchange to merge. Lady came flying around the12E to 55N leg, crossed over the right lane into the left and rammed the right side of my wife’s car. She never even slowed down and fled the scene. I drove 12 from Hammond to BR for years. Cell phones are definitely an issue, but the biggest problem is the insane amount of truck traffic. The number of times you get stuck behind a truck driving 68 in the left passing a truck driving 65 in the left is absurd. It takes miles to pass, it causes traffic to back up, and as soon as they move to the left it’s like a mad dash to try to get past the trucks before one gets over again. If you pay attention to opposite traffic direction you can see it all the time. Base traffic, a gap, then two trucks next to each other and cars piled in behind for miles.

Two cars hitting head on at 50 mph each is similar to hitting a solid wall at 100 mph.

I don't know what compels the majority of drivers to HAVE to be in front of the vehicle in front of them...no matter how fast that car is going they have a biological need to get in front of it and if they have to endanger their lives and the people around them that is an acceptable risk. It is insane. If people walked down sidewalks that way there'd be a fistfight breaking out every 3 feet.

It is also uncanny how many of y'all redline your vehicle every time you are taking off. Every redlight, stop sign or vehicle breaking in front of you...nailing the tach. This is why sooooooo many of you have had bad experiences with automobiles not lasting and having all manner of mechanical issues...its your damned driving habits.

a 25 mile trip at 60 MPH takes 25 minutes. At 80 MPH it takes 18.45 minutes. At 80 MPH statistically you have a 78% greater risk of having an accident than at 60...and you are 4 times as likely to get a ticket in ALL speed zones. That ticket will cost you, on average, aroung $300 and you will pay, on average, $700 more per year for insurance for an average of 3 years...so that 6.45 minutes of time may cost you $2400 without having an accident. Unless you earn $23,000 an hour you do not make enough money to offset that time....and you are also driving up EVERYONE's insurance rates across ALL insurance markets.

Finally, merge like a zipper. Statistics indicate that IF drivers would merge like a zipper it would save everyone 20-25 minutes a year...and it would save $billions in shipping costs. Its a simply fricking idea, the volume of traffic is constant, the area in which that traffic can transit has changed. There is going to be a slowdown. everyone getting in one lane MILES from the restriction is INSANITY. I-10 starts in Jacksonville and neds in Los Angeles. Somewhere in that path there is going to be a lane closure. If everyone only used one lane in Jacksonville because there is a lane closed in Houston traffic would eventually stop flowing at all....it makes no difference if the restriction is 1000 miles down the road or 1 mile or 500 feet....there are multiple lanes to handle the volume of traffic....idiots using only one lane for miles and miles negates that area meant to handle the volume. For the life of me I have never understood it....and, in some states, like Washington, it is illegal to block the lane that is closed by driving down the center line of both lanes...as it should be because its dangerous and its anti-social behavior while operating a machine which kills a lot of people every year. Everybody is going somewhere....your trip is no more important than anyone's you narcissistic frick...merge like a zipper.....
