She was a terrible mayor and did nothing of value for the city or Parish. I don't hate her personally... I actually have met her husband at a few events around town and he's by all accounts a great guy. But her politics, via her personal or party politics, have seriously destroyed everything Kip had done. It isn't sustainable and it hurt all of us financially.

I guess we could give her some credit for the Amazon center.
You’re right she didn’t scare them off but Amazon is building those in every city.

For one, she filled the police department with completely incompetent people but their only qualification was the right pigmentation

She single-handedly killed downtown with her policies and enforcement because of a personal beef

2015 was one of the lowest years in murders.
Which funny because she disbanded the brave team in 2016 when she was elected and ever since then, the murders jumped wayyyyyyy back up

Can you explain this one…I’m not sure I know the details

She also is the reason Downtown BR was ruined and struggling to this day.
Yep. The decline of downtown under her watch is criminal. Downtown was a great place to be during the later Kip administration.
Such a wasted opportunity.

Her political opponent, John Delgado, owned several downtown bars. To hurt him, she got BRPD, to run all of the downtown bar goers away.

She cleaned up the city, beefed up the police force to make us feel safe, held our schools accountable and increased attendance which lead to lower truancy, utility services are at an all time high for performance (waste management, water, sewage, electricity), our taxes are lower but we are getting more bang for our tax dollar….oh wait, it’s not Opposite Day?

Murphy Paul had absolutely no business running the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Being a career bureaucrat for the Highway Patrol qualifies you for a lot of things. Running an inner city Police Department is not one.
His failed leadership and constant use of identity politics that traded upon the fears of long past transgressions led to record levels of crime. Simply put, career inner city Cops knew they could not trust him to not exploit their lawful actions if the optics were not perfect. Broome was elected in 2016 on the fears of cops like Blane Salamoni. Paul and Broome spent the next 7 years trying to manipulate incidents to find the next version of him to keep her political base stoked and play upon their fabricated fears to keep her in power. As a result, pro active policing stopped in Baton Rouge. When that occurs, record level violence follows.
There were over 750 murders during this rein. That number speaks for itself.
You can only fake it for so long.

Not sure how much she had to do with it, but BREC decided to renovate the existing zoo in NBR/Baker instead of relocating the zoo to a more populated area.

She failed to complete Kip’s Greenlight Plan and her huge MovEBR plan is limping along. The synchronization part doesn’t seem to be making any difference.
I was actually wondering about this recently. Something has happened to surface street traffic since the school year started. I travel Seigen, Bluebonnet and Essen every weekday. In the last few weeks, sync is gone and ghost stops (no one at cross traffic) happen to the main traffic flow. Also specifically on Essen, people using GPS for I-10 W to I-12 E get routed onto Essen instead of taking the interstate ramp loop. This is most of the traffic backup all the way to Perkins headed E on Essen. This stuff wasnt happening in Sept, Oct, etc.
Its like someone pulled the plug on active traffic control in EBR.

I’m being serious- are you fricking retarded?

This is one of my pet peeves. It isn't faster but it is shorter and it fricks up all the traffic on Essen.

Can downtown make a comeback or has that ship sailed?

She destroyed the BRPD. Now crimes are just let go in NBR

Does Mayor Sid have a downtown plan? I’d love to see him give downtown the same love that Kip did.

She allowed a massive number of major investments in EBR, including those funded by private or federal dollars, wither and die on the vine because of either incompetence at not following up on grant requirements or purposefully destroying them because they didn't give enough kickbacks to the right people in North Baton Rouge.
She dismantled the BRAVE program (a system of paid informants who helped solve crimes) and then leaked the names and addresses of all of the informants, resulting in dozens of them being murdered and the crime rate exploding quickly thereafter.
She began enforcing open container laws downtown to purposefully destroy the nightlife businesses partially owned by a political rival. The effect nearly destroyed every retail business and bar on third street (this started well before Covid).
She scuttled multiple efforts to renovate and expand the River Center and convention center.
She split DPW into a multi-headed hydra of an organization where none of the heads talk to each other even when their job tasks should require them to do so (like how sanitary sewer, storm water, utilities, and road crews all should coordinate when tearing up or resurfacing a roadway). Shocker: it made things MUCH worse.
Don't even get me started on the whole stormwater utility fiasco.
