Can someone explain to me how AppleCare is not a complete scam?

They want $20 a month for what exactly? Seems like a complete rip off and waste of money. Has anybody had a good experience with this and feel it is a good value?

I don't use it... but my son in law does and he's been pleased with the prompt service when he's needed it.

I turning my 9 year old Mac into the trash today replaced by a new 2026 Mac. It worked well through out but is running a bit hot and I think the frequent updates reduce the functionality bit by bit. If I had the AppleCare for the full 9 years my total billing would have been 2200 bucks. With coverage that would have replaced my 9 year old. The new Mac delivered today was 1150 bucks about half the cost of the maintenance contract.

It’s insurance. Insurance is mostly a scam, but occasionally works out for consumers

Yea but it seems like the amount you’re paying in AppleCare over time has to be as much or more than it would cost you to just pay full price for the new phone. Thats the ridiculous thing about it.

I had a MacMini that had RAM issues. Because the RAM is soldered in, the whole logic board had to be swapped out. I spent maybe $150-$200 for AppleCare, that repair would have cost at least $600. So, there ya go.

I’ve had two phones replaced and each of my kids had a phone replaced. …but I hang on to phones for a long time.

Apple doesn’t offer AppleCare to help the consumer, they offer it to make money. Just like all warranties.

Worked at the Genius Bar years ago, it’s absolutely not a scam, but was used much more when phones didn’t have water resistance.
The customer would use an incident, pay the service fee and have a repaired or replaced device (mostly the same day) with an Apple warranty and transferred Apple care coverage and with all data and service transferred over.
It’s absolutely not fun saying that the phone is damaged beyond repair and having to spend hundreds of dollars on a replacement.

Is AppleCare your first experience with extended warranties?
It’s to help protect you from headaches and random events. Not from years of nothing happening.
The fact it covers stuff like theft and water damage are the real gamechangers

Had to have my back glass fixed twice and jumped in a pool with my phone. Paid next to nothing for a replacement. Then used the replacement to trade in towards my 17 pro.

So apple doesnt warranty their products? You had to pay for an out of pocket warranty for a manufacturers defect? sounds shitty.
