La Cosa Nostra still exist, primarily in NY, NJ, Philly, South Florida and New England, but in a much smaller scale than they did from the 1920's to the 1980's.

There are still a lot of Italians involved in the seedier side of the French Quarter like the Olanos. And Vincent Marcello is a Carlos relative and owns a bunch of FQ property.

1979 Carlos Marcellos Jr lived in the room below me in Hodges back when it was an unairconditioned dorm. Turned out to be a nice guy although I was a little scared when I first found out who he was.

Grew up with a couple Marcello’s In BR and I’m sure they were distant relatives but Craig though he was fricking Don Corleone as we all knew he was really Don Douchebag.
Had other Italian friends who swore “the old man had a guy whacked” or “my brother made him sleep with the fishes.”
The Godfather turned every dago I knew into mafioso.

On the Irish side, I was only aware of the Comiskey's. There was a write up on their influences in the book "The Last Hayride"(details Edwin Edwards 2nd run for governor in 1983). I believe they had direct ties with Chicago Comiskey's(Comiskey Whiskey).
