He lived in Marrero before that.

That's still a beautiful house, too.

The only real mafia stuff that I've heard that still exist in this country are the guys who sell meat and seafood to the restaurants in the big cities in the northeast.
That and I guess you could consider some unions to be like the mafia

A relative of mine lived in the house next to Carlos’ house in Marrero and was good friends with him. He’s a Provanzano, which were a mob family some time ago in New Orleans. I don’t know his involvement in any of that stuff though.

Read "Mr. New Orleans"

Some of it is puffed up but a pretty good lay down of organized crime in NO in the 50's 60s 70s.

A Marcello was in my fraternity. I think he was a great nephew of the big man. He was in ROTC and last I heard had made the Army a career.

I think there was a Marcello kid who use to get his head cracked on Saint Charles by Marengo Street during mardi gras by some gay jays. At least this is what the old heads use to say about 10 years ago.

Let's see

1. A distant family friend, ex-prize fighter in the 70's, claims to have been "involved" with Marcello. Dud'es a blowhard though and probably a lying. But, he did recently do some time and he does currently own Marcellos old fishing camp in Des Allemands.

2. My Nana's dad (papa) shot and killed a black guy in the 50's in broad daylight for looking at his wife the wrong way. the cops hauled him in, he was released withing 24 hours. Nothing else happened. He sold ice for a living. When he died in the 90's there were feds at the funeral. There were no discussions though, or any evidence beyond what I just wrote of his involvement. Just rumors about him and his NOLA cop brother.

ETA:

3. I went to high school with a kid, whose dad was a prosecutor in NOLA in the 90's. His dad was found executed (shot in the head while he was on his knees) in Madisonville when the kid was a real young.

I would love to take some time to go back and read about how much the Italians and Irish hated each other way back in the day in Nola.
I had read a few articles about how bad the tension was with those groups

Didn't someone on this board say that Kenny Matassa was a blood relative of Carlos?

it's really not though. I never claimed anyone was actually involved in anything. Just a suspicious story we grew up with about our great grandpaw and likely a liar criminal who did buy a fishing camp once owned by the NOLA mob boss.

Perhaps you can ask the Governor. His father was sheriff when Marcello spent time in Independence. It would be hard to imagine they did not cross paths.
