I haven’t had a US tax burden in 3 years. If I were still going back and forth to the US and was being paid out of the US then, yes, I could be double taxed. I’m on a German contract now and don’t travel back anymore so I only pay taxes in Germany.

It’s a little more than “close to Europe,” it’s actually in Europe. It’s one of the 6 founding countries of the EU.
Even more the Romans had a hand in establishing cities all over Europe in England, Germany, France, Spain, ect., including London and Paris. It's relatively close

If the Russians don’t invade in 15-20 years you’ll be sitting pretty

I'm not sure that's a real big concern.

Russia isn't very good at the whole "invading" thing.

I lived nearly a decade in England. Didn’t get taxed by the US one cent but taxed by the UK. US saw what I paid and felt sorry for me I guess lol.

Aren't property rights in many European countries kind of gray. You don't actually own it but have a 99 year lease on the land that is automatically renewed at a nominal rate but you have to get permission to do certain things with the property.

Mildly interesting for around $100k initially and then an estimated annual $10-$20k for maintenance/upkeep/ taxes/repairs.

Each? $100k each for start-up and another $20k each per year?

That doesn’t sound right

For travels Croatia is fantastic in the summer. Great people lots of beautiful scenery on the coast etc. Great local seafood and the people have the right attitude about life. Women are gorgeous as well.

The property was ~$400k, there’s some fees for US ownership, as well as some work to be done to it. The $20k per year for maintenance and overhead was a budget number. I’m sure that would be less in reality over years.

Possibly you’re thinking of us not owning it outright?

I’ve owned a boat in a three-way ( ) partnership, that went well. I took more care of the boat than the other two but I also got more use of it.

I realize the odds are against finding perfect partners. That’s one of the reasons I passed on the “opportunity”.

I’m just trying to figure your math. You said it was $100k each and $20k a year after that.

I’m asking if that is $20k per person meaning $100k total with 5 people. $100k a year to maintain a $500k property doesn’t make sense.

Is one figure per each person and the other a total number?

we periodically look at real estate in North/East Sicily.

I imagine one day when we have the luxury of time and can make regular trips over there, we will likely buy something.

I live in Central Europe. Lots of positives, won’t bother listing them now.

Poland! Although the millions of Ukrainian refugees they've accepted have likely pushed up prices.

UKI is not as idyllic as OP thinks it is. Poland and other ex-Warsaw Pact countries are the least likely to do the whiplash "sort of capitalism - Marxism" that South America tends to do.

Europe ain’t America, you need a visa. My SIL lived in London for 4 years and their immigration policies are a lot tighter than the loose shite here.
uh have you been paying attention to the UK over the last year? Or France, Spain, and Germany for that matter? It’s worse than anything here.
