It must be great to be black and be able to blame your shortcomings on everyone but yourself.

He said "systemic".
That word is an absolute indictment of Caucasians when used in the context of Southern government and culture.

Yeah it’s called valuing the nuclear family and higher education. Vital components lacking in the black community.

Incentivize parents to care about school. This is where we are as a society. No one will do ANYTHING, including BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES for THEIR OWN BLOOD unless incentivized? SERIOUSLY? I wonder why their kids don't value anything at all, including someone else's life?
"Why are you scared to let your kids go to LSU now?"
Exhibit A...

Drugs and crime will never go away in BR. BR is way too big of a drug hub to completely oust it. Feel like BR leaders are failing to put a choke hold on it though. Choke holds have been put on in the past.
This applies to the DA and 19th JDC Judges as well.

I watched a three year old black child yelled at today by his father who told him "Hey you little motherfricker, I told you not to fricking go over there. Get in the fricking car right fricking now!"
Kid doesn't have a chance. Generational dysfunction.

So many barriers existed to acquire and build wealth, it's hardly surprising there is a cycle of poverty, crime and hardship with no real solution on our lifetime

It's around the 15M mark that he uses a personal experience to give his understanding of why things are as they are.
FTR, the "generational trauma" was in reference to the effects of crack cocaine on blacks. And to his credit, he made oft reference to the positive impact of his mom's discipline. He also noted the loss of the fear of God. I agree with that.
Beyond that, his mention of "gun violence" (4M30s), "dis-invested community" (15M40s), and "village" (22M20s) betray how he sees things. He was criminal focused but never brought the victims to the front of the stage (I only listened to about 24M of it).
I realize there is not always a 1:1 correspondence between a society and its laws. But in theory, breaking a law is a crime against the people of the society who want to order their society by said law. I don't think he gets that.
He identified education as a major factor. Does he think not enough money is being spent on education? Paul simply won't drill down deep enough to start extracting root systems.
Been gone from BR almost 40 years, Maybe BR deserves him. But the memories of the BR I knew as a child, a teen, and student deserve better.

Next he will blame lack of reparations

He should worry about what he can control.
Problem is everyone is a victim, but the actual victim of the crime.

The quintessential pic that sums up BR that I just keep posting over and over. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Is it fair to just blame the politicians though? People still can control how they behave.
Yes they can. But many politicians bought poor votes through these entitlement programs that reward people financially for being poor and being a single mother.
A higher percentage of blacks were in the lower end of the income spectrum, so that’s why this problem seems disproportionately skewed towards this demographic despite more white people being in welfare in terms of total recipients

What a slap in the face to every African American that grew up in a similar area /situation and chose to be a productive citizen.

The only trauma here is the violent trauma against law abiding citizens at the mercy of black culture fostered by Democrat policies.

Baton Rouge has had two republican mayors from 1876-2023. The last one went out of office in 2005. The mayors have been black since 2005, presiding over an astronomical rise in crime rates. Is Murphy suggesting going back to white Republicans, under whose system crime was substantially less.
Him saying the problem is systemic seems to blame the system that things got worse under. Maybe he can more clearly state what he means.

They are referred to as sellouts and the Gravy’s of the world claim they are part of the problem for leaving the “hood”
