This is stupid. There is no such thing. You have to be under arrest for some other charge to "resist arrest". It's an add on to something else. If a cop is stupid enough to only charge someone with resisting, it should be thrown out of any court in the nation.
This happens all the time.
Cops charge people with this if they can't get them for anything else and they claim they are "uncooperative" when trying to detain them temporarily or investigate them for a crime they end up not being able to prove.

I am above all, a political pragmatist. I am NOT a Conservative ideologue. I believe in political coalitions and compromise and taking imperfect wins rather than perfect losses. It's why I get hammered from ALL directions on the political board. And it's why I oppose formulating criminal justice and law enforcement along Ideological lines. This DA literally took the crimes that blacks are most convicted off, and decriminalized them, with absolute disregard for the Rule of Law or the property rights of her law-abiding constituents. You can't possibly see any wisdom in that.

No it doesn't. There's a difference between a lawful detention and actually placing someone under arrest. You can't arrest someone for resisting unless they have been arrested for something else first.

Also, can we talk about how you're reading a website with a banner headline saying "BLUE LIVES MATTER"
That has an obvious typo in the very first sentence.
The parent website, "Defense Maven", has this self-characterization statement:
No. The site was a link from an unrelated site I was on for PMC personnel. I didn’t even read up on the site statement. BUT before you say anything, I pulled most of the quote INCLUDING THE LIST OF CRIMES NOT TO BE PROSECUTED off of her election website. She actually made that list her primary platform and touted it at every speech. This is the classic “vote for me and I will hook you up, frick the law or what is right” position.

Read the whole thing, you can still get civil infractions like fines, restitution, and community service. You just won't get jail time.
People really need to read.
We have a fricked system where everything is punished the same way....jail. Thats only 1 of the ways we can punish crimes.
-Incapacitation
-Deterrence
-Retribution
-Rehabilitation
-Restoration
Lock em up is a terrible method on all accounts for anything other than violent criminals.

I guess anyone can now eat a meal and skip on the bill. I know they may get community service but why even show up to do it.
The DA’s stance doesn’t mean that you won’t necessarily be arrested, have your belongings confiscated (likely to disappear from the evidence room or require a battle to get them back), thrown in jail, have to pay bail, hire a lawyer, live under conditions of bail, risk having a warrant put out on you if you make the slightest mistake in the process, etc.

If she had decriminalized all these crimes, yeah, I wouldn't see any wisdom in her decision.
But that's not AT ALL even close to what she's doing. She's attempting to unburden busy courts and overcrowded jails by empowering her prosecutors to make deals with misdemeanor criminals that will keep them OUT of the system and place them into programs to educate them, perform community service, etc.
If you're as pragmatic as you claim to be, I can think of no reason you would be against her decision.

Did anyone notice the first person quoted?
The criminal defense attorneys are going to have a collective fit over this. Talk about killing their business.

Reading an entire article would be too much work. Just read the headlines and have a gut reaction to it, that's much easier.
It's funny how everyone here is so up in arms over this.
"In Louisiana, we prosecute everyone who commits any of these crimes because that's the law and people need to be held responsible for their actions, baw! .....well, like the 4% of the time that our corrupt and incompetent system is able to ever apprehend anyone, anyway."

Whats even funnier is that most of the people flipping their shite are "small-government conservatives" who just cant help looking past their "pearl-clutching" conservatism.
Im an actual small-government proponent. And i like the idea of a community trying something unique to curb the obvious mass-incarceration problem we have.
I get it, these people are criminals. But IMO the purpose of jail is NOT the community taking revenge on people. So if someone has a bunch of unpaid parking tickets...no...i dont want them in jail.
I will now wait for someone to respond one by one with every offense listed.

In all seriousness, this is an experiment and it has potential to either be really bad or really good. Too many people (poor, inner city) are locked up on simple charges
Please explain how this could potentially be "very good"? Crimes are crimes and should be prosecuted as such.

Best example ever of inmates running the asylum.
This is societal breakdown in action. This is anarchy.
If it doesn’t result in chaos, it’s just because it’s a little bit of anarchy in an otherwise mostly law and order society, and it’s made up of enough people who still respect the law more than she does.
Writ large, this would certainly result in societal collapse.
And I’m not talking about the drug dealing or possession.
