Tecovas has a leather care kit they sell on their site. Out of stock (holiday gifts I imagine) but seems like your easiest route?

Cow shite, mud, and a morning dew application a few times a week keep mine looking like real cowboy boots.

I occasionally clean them with yellow saddle soap, let them dry a bit, and polish them with whichever polish is close to the boot color. Other than that, I just wear them.

I really only go through that trouble because it really helps with waterproofing and cleaning when they inevitably get run through a mud hole.

Depends on the boot.

For my chromexel boots, just Bick4 or Saphir greasy cream. Sometimes a light coat of non wax shoe cream as well.

Shell boots, cordovan cream.

My kudu boots, just Bick4

I don't really have nice boots. But all my calfskin dress shoes will get shoe trees and a brushing before getting put back up in the closet. Find I can go wayyyy longer between polishing that way and the trees keep the shape.

When I do clean and polish, I start off with saddle soap to clean. Then hit them with Saphir Renovatuer conditioner. Brush that off and they will already be pretty shined up. Stuff is amazing. Then hit with a cream polish in the color of the leather and brush it off. That's going to really hide your scuffs and give a pretty decent shine. I'd probably stop there on a boot. If you are really going for a polish, you can then had a wax polish and you can go until you see your reflection. Use edge dressing for any sole edge damage/scuffs. Can make an old shoe look brand new.

This thread is fascinating to me. If my drss boots need polishing I go into the office that day and drop them off with the shoe polisher guy then grab them at lunch and go back and work from home. I have had to get new soles on my chacos but that's about all the shoe maintenance I've ever done.

Not necessarily related to your question, but you mentioned you got some Tecovas. I have a new (replacement) pair of The Earl. I know they're the right size based on the slippage in the back and where my toe is, but holy shite.. I have to move heaven and earth to get them off.

Did you have that issue when you first got yours? Mostly in the lower shaft part.

Picture of the OP:

All I have are work boots, they get cleaned with a good saddle soap when needed and treated with Obenauf's LP after. If Obenauf's or mink oil is a bit too greasy for you, then use Nivea face cream which is something I learned from an Italian luxury leather goods company.

The Earle was my first pair. Never have a problem with getting them off. Maybe you have a big heel. You should try a zip

They're Tecova's, baw. Scrape the cow shite off them with the end of the hose pipe and leave them by the front door. Take a slag brush to em in the morning and they're good to go.

I buy 200 dollar Ariats. I waterproof them new, wear them a few years, then toss them.

My knowledge of boot care is limited but from my understanding you don’t want to condition them that much. That’s something you do twice a year at most. Cleaning is different because that obviously depends how much you use them.

Bickford #4. Most boot stores carry it. Use it to clean the boot and as a conditioner. It won't change the color of the boot (some will).

No mine come off pretty good. If anything my ostritches are a hair too big. The lizards fit perfect though. I went into the store for the lizards and ordered the same size in ostritch months later. I know they're handmade so there will be slight differences in each model. I think a half size down would still be too small. I love these Tecovas.

Yes.

Not locally anymore and could have sent them off but there was such a delay I bought some new danners to try.

They are awesome, but I did enjoy the red wing pull on Pecos I had. 10 years is a long time for boots
