It is all about outward presentation. They live in a shitty house that's falling apart in the ghetto, but cruise around in an expensive, jacked-up coup de ville to give the impression that they are successful to the public. So it is the same thing with the gold teeth, watches, and chains.

There was a lot of hope for this guy when he was first elected. He seemed to take crime and education seriously. Unfortunately it was too serious for the 'liberal power brokers', al.com and other ring leaders. Woodfin's attempt for accountabilty and responsbility was not received well and sadly he has retreated. It's all white people and/or the Over the Mountain area's fault now. And he is popular again.
