Richest Families
With a estimated GDP of 213.26 billion the state of Alabama should be at the top of the list.

No Rockefeller, DuPont, Vanderbilts or Carnegies - crap list.
I'm wondering what classification they're using for "family"
quote:
METHODOLOGY
Unlike our flagship Forbes 400 list of America’s richest people and our World’s Billionaires ranks, which focus on individual or nuclear-family wealth, America’s Richest Families includes multigenerational families of all sizes, ranging from just 2 brothers to the 4,000 members of the Du Pont clan. (Note: We left out self-made entrepreneurs who founded their companies and already appear with their nuclear family on our Billionaires list. That includes Rupert Murdoch and J. Joe Ricketts. Also absent are married couples like Tom and Judy Love.)
To value their fortunes, we added up their assets, including stakes in public and private companies, real estate, art and cash, and took into account estimates of debt. For those with publicly traded holdings, we used stock prices from the close of trading on December 4, 2020. We excluded any assets irrevocably pledged to charitable foundations. We attempted to vet these numbers with all the families or their representatives. Some cooperated; others didn’t.
So they guessed at a few...

Isn't the Vanderbilt fortune pretty much all gone? Not sure about Carnegie.

Forgot about that story
quote:
The Vanderbilt heirs squandered their fortune.
After William died in 1885, family members who inherited the fortune started squandering it. By the early 1970s, none of the 120 Vanderbilt descendants had even $1 million dollars to their name.
Also forgot Andrew Carnegie gave all his away. Truly a remarkable human being.
quote:
By the time of his death, Andrew Carnegie, despite his best efforts, had not been able to give away his entire fortune. He had distributed $350 million, but had $30 million left, which went into the Corporation's endowment. Toward the end of his life, Carnegie, a pacifist, had a single goal: achieving world peace.

Andrew Carnegie gave 90% of his wealth away in the late 1880s.

Vanderbilt
Heirs squandered the wealth away. I say that as I sit here a few hundreds yards from Vanderbilt Beach.

I'd spread that story as well if I was one of the richest families in the world.

I worked at the Koch Corp office for a bit. Charles had several private garages at the office and an admin that handled his travel. He spent $37,000 annually on tires for his vehicles. That was in 2013. My fresh out of college, new career brain had trouble comprehending that amount of wealth.

You think there are a whole secret group of US families that no one knows about that are wealthier than the Waltons? You people are truly too ignorant for your own good
