Personally, I think that if one can afford it, San Diego is basically paradise.

what about people, family, friends, and population. Some people want to live in isolation.
Maybe
California
Maryland
Louisana
Hawaii
Indiana

IMO, Maryland doesnt do anything better than Virginia. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

All things considered -- economic, lifestyle, and cost of living.
1. Texas
2. Virginia
3. North Carolina

Again, the majority of any state would be crappy to live in IMO. States with the largest chunks of land that I think would be a great place to live:
Washington
Alaska
Utah
Idaho
Oregon
California
Idaho
Montana
Colorado
Florida
Arizona
New Mexico
And really, there is not a lot of difference between these states when ranking, it comes down to the specific location much more.

Absolutely beautiful part of the country. Definitely underrated. Good choice.

That place is super isolated. I did a backpacking trip along the Lost Coast and the trailhead was in a town with like 5 houses and one general store.

I have a coworker that lives there and loves it. Really cool place. I love it out on the peninsula.

Texas would win easily if it weren't a geographic wasteland outside of the hill country.
VA/NC are good choices, I suppose.
