What?
Can I go hiking near where I could live? No
Biking? No
Mountain Climbing? No
Boating? Most likely No
Fishing? Maybe
Hunting? Maybe
Kick back with nature?
Not unless I've got a shite ton of coin.
Texas is where one goes for their career, no other reason to live there specifically, imo. If the issue isn't where the job is located, there are simply better places for the money than Texas.

I lived in VA for 5 years and WA for 3 years. My wife loved VA and would move back in a hurry. Taxes are too high thou. Lived outside of Tacoma and yes, it drizzled 9 months out of the year. I enjoyed the cooler weather though. You need a light jacket in May.

Virginia used to be great before the god damn yankees ruined it

All the Virginia talk in this thread has been about Northern Virginia. The rest of the state is the good part.

I must admit I've never been anywhere but ski towns in the winter as far as Colorado goes. I'll try to make a trip out there during the summer.

I personally like living in a purple state

If we're going by politics, New Hampshire would be my destination, but there is no way I will ever live in New England.

South Carolina can thank VA and NC for stopping the Northern invasion of their state.

Except for mountain climbing, you can do all these things in/around Austin for sure. Texas is a big place, and it offers a lot.
This is my personal favorite way to relax here:

Of the places that I have been to:
Tennessee (where I live now)
Washington, DC (if you consider this a state)
California

It goes both ways honestly. Tons of recent college grads from the south relocate to NOVA every year in search for work. Personally, I know more people that have relocated to NOVA from the South than the North.

As far as my preference:
Louisiana for the winter/fall
Montana, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Utah and any of the Western States for the Spring/Summer
