Texas is where one goes for their career, no other reason to live there specifically, imo. If the issue isn't where the job is located, there are simply better places for the money than Texas.

I lived in VA for 5 years and WA for 3 years. My wife loved VA and would move back in a hurry. Taxes are too high thou. Lived outside of Tacoma and yes, it drizzled 9 months out of the year. I enjoyed the cooler weather though. You need a light jacket in May.

Except for mountain climbing, you can do all these things in/around Austin for sure. Texas is a big place, and it offers a lot. This is my personal favorite way to relax here:

It goes both ways honestly. Tons of recent college grads from the south relocate to NOVA every year in search for work. Personally, I know more people that have relocated to NOVA from the South than the North.
