Oil prices have been grinding higher and higher, spurring forecasters to predict they could hit $80 a barrel this year. Oil is already trading at its highest levels in three years after a 22% gain for U.S. crude futures over the past 12 months, and some market watchers expect prices to take out new milestones as the rally continues in 2018.

Not long after they start drilling they'll produce another glut and the prices will drop again.

Oil $80 a barrel predicted
dabigfella told everyone in his fan boy TESLA thread on the Money Talk Board last April that oil would never hit $75/barrel again. That's right....NEVER!!

I hate the nature of this business. Even if oil gets back to $100 I doubt my employer even gives us 3% raises. So ready to jump to something else.

If one are a true asset, one can name their price. If one is a "safety engineer", the a 3% raise could be hard to come by.

If there’s one way to raise prices, it’s to open up the entire U.S. to drilling

Until the next crash.
No one learned their lesson in the 80's or 2010's. Best move I ever made was getting out of the oilfield.

1 Oil prices rise
2 folks get happy
3 ill advised financing/spending
4 oil prices drop
5 layoffs
6 folks are deservingly stuck in shitty financial situations
7 repos, ins fraud, marriage issues, depression....
8 things level back out
Idiots rinse and repeat

Should be a steady climb up since Trump is going to keep dragging his nuts across Iran's chin.

I was about to say. O&g isn't known for underpaying employees during the good times. They just take it away in a heart beat as soon as things turn south

I have two Ram Rebel TRX’s coming in! One w/nuts and one with shackles! Gonna be a great commute for 2 years!

As one of the lucky (not really. I'm amazing and kept my job based off merit and basically being a genius) ones who made it through this as downturn with an engineering degree and experience, I'm not looking forward to this next year. I'd rather it stay where it's at for a year and a half and get people comfortable with hiring and build the workforce back up. 80 bucks is going to get the workload shooting back up with 40% of the people available to do the work.
I mean, it will be nice to see raises again, but I make enough to be okay sticking where I'm at for a few more years and not being overworked.
