Well that took care of any desire I might have had to cut down a few "easy" trees.

Holy hell what a dumbass. There is zero good outcome that could have happened from cutting a tree that tall down

I would have been pissed as hell if I lived nearby and he was cutting down the tree like that

Watched a real tree guy take down a tall pine here in the hood that got struck by lightning. They cut it a section at a time, from the top down. Never had to aim a the trunk.

Maybe this dude should have watched a YouTube video or something.

Were they planning on dropping that tree in the street and not attempt to block the traffic?

Probably. These guys need their arse kicked so hard for doing something this stupid. They easily could have killed someone

You're absolutely correct. Maybe $5,000. Maybe $7,500. cheap for getting one that tall dropped.

I hope you're clearing a lot for that price.

if you do a humboldt undercut, and then notch the backside at a 45, you can control where it will go. I've done it a bunch. you can use a bottle jack or wedges to help correct for leaning trees

What about a come-along to pull it into line? Seen that done a few times.

We needed the tree cut down and our lawn guy offered to do it for cheap. He did a good job on the lawn so we trusted him. Turns out he’s not so good with trees. We made him pay for the roof to get fixed and he didn’t have insurance. So the insurance company came after him for over $60,000. He doesn’t do our lawn anymore
It's pretty shitty to just stick the lawn guy with the bill. If you are that much of a dumbass to hire some guy off the street to chop down your tree you should be responsible for paying for the damages

My first job out of high school was working for a tree trimming company named Asplundh. Every time I see a guy with a rope around a tree I always laugh a little. What people fail to recognize is that when you see professionals and a line around the tree, what you are seeing more times then not; is a cable that is attached to a wench. And that cable has constant tension and is adjusted mid cut and at no point ever has slack.

And what ever you baws do, never climb a ladder with a chainsaw. The only time that is ever acceptable is if it’s a step stool and you are using a handsaw for a small limb.

Chainsaw + ladder + tree = death/serious injury

If you wanna de-limb a tree. Here is a nice hack I learned from an arborists. Sawzall with a pruning blade.
