I've been using the same Ryobi cordless tools for at least 15 years now

How tf is this environmental friendly?
don't get too worked up baw, does it really make a difference to you if the world runs out of precious metals in 1000 years or 1500 years? we aint gone be here to see it and they aren't gonna last forever either way

Wait until you need to buy a new battery because the old one died. The 7.5 Amp hour battery in my Ego mower just died. Warranty is for 3 years. Naturally it's 3 months out of warranty. New one same size is $400. For $100 more I could buy the same lawnmower brand new.
I’ve had the same Honda engine Husqvarna for 8 years with very minimal maintenance required, and will most likely have it for at least another 8+ years…SAME for my weed-eater, blower, tiller, etc…
What’s up with all of these battery-powered yard equipment?

Nah, we gotta protect those corporations!
Yup.
It always amuses me when someone finds out I'm a libertarian and equates that with "corporate shill". Makes some of them downright angry when I point out that the entire concept of the corporate veil, copyright, patents, etc, etc, aren't the product of a free market; they only exist because of government edict, the power of which to do so they fully support

Millennials don't know how to maintain anything. Electric is more in their wheelhouse.

Don't be bringing factually correct information to this space baw. If the OT baws want a technical design copyrighted...you'll be damned if you don't give them a copyright and even include it in a southern cooking cook book to boot.

You can get adapters on Amazon. I use Bauer tools with my Dewalt batteries.

This. They all make roughly the same tools for your average homeowner. For Christmas one year I was given a Porter-Cable drill and driver set. Still works great after 8 years or so. I added a reciprocating saw, and a cordless circular saw over the years. I likely would have bought Ryobi, but when you already have a pair of tools and two batteries, it is just easier to grab the same brand and have multiple batteries ready to go.

No gas, oil, filters or excuses from my wife or kids that they can edge or blow the back patio because they can’t get it started

Or because Boomers and Gen X voted in ethanol mandates that made small engines less reliable.

Nah, we gotta protect those corporations!
Like these perfectly legal adapters you can buy on Amazon?

And there’s plenty of 3rd party batteries too…

As the required voltage required for each tool continues to rise and rise... Pretty soon we'll be able to plug them straight into the wall!

Reminds me of the earlyish cell phone days where every single model of cell phone had a different charger.
What kind of phone do you have? Nokia? Damn, I have Motorola.
At least these days it's Apple vs everything else in terms of charging ports. The near universal switch to USB-C has been amazing for the consumer. Having a laptop, phone, tablet, game controllers, etc., all able to use the same chord is great.

Hundred of new sizes, volts, chargers, fitment. Nobody’s battery matches anybody else’s crap. Dozen of plastic tools by every brand. New manufacturing and raw material sourcing around the globe to match. All for items likely obsolete in 5 years.

dewalt and ryobi have one battery for all their tools

Rigid has lifetime replacement on their tools as long as you register them on their site within 30 days of purchase.
No need to pay for the crappy yellow brand or the overpriced red tools.
