Hundred of new sizes, volts, chargers, fitment. Nobody’s battery matches anybody else’s crap. Dozen of plastic tools by every brand. New manufacturing and raw material sourcing around the globe to match. All for items likely obsolete in 5 years.

How tf is this environmental friendly?

At least Feds should have standards for fitment, chargers, and volts. ANSI, IEC, somebody.

Smart move on the manufacturer. Buy a DeWalt cordless drill, then you're steered toward all other cordless tools that use the same battery.

Thought this thread might be about the Uber situation at the Battery ATL.

Ryobi's batteries are backwards compatible with the blue tools they made. Only thing is the new batteries require the new charger. Some of those blue tools can be 15+ years old.

I have had 4 Ryobi batteries for almost as along as I have had my daughter.

It operates my weed eater, small blower, edger and three fans we use for tailgating and playing golf.

The key is (and I thought pretty obviously) to find a brand you like and interchange the batteries between products.

Until they redesign their batteries and the new batteries don’t fit the older tools.

You pick a color and you stick to that color......for life. Kind of like being in a gang.

Or, you buy a couple of adapters and tell the tool companies to frick off.

Feds have fricked up the education system, the healthcare system, auto industry, the economy; sure, let's let them get more involved in tools/construction.

Doesn’t the government protect copyright laws?

Wouldn’t a libertarian view allow for another company to make transitional batteries, or cartridge interfaces that allow for mixed brand battery use?

Nah, we gotta protect those corporations!

Wait until you need to buy a new battery because the old one died. The 7.5 Amp hour battery in my Ego mower just died. Warranty is for 3 years. Naturally it's 3 months out of warranty. New one same size is $400. For $100 more I could buy the same lawnmower brand new.

Patent law applies here, not copyright.

There are some things that should be standardized. Not saying the government should enforce it, though.

The number of oil filters that exist is simply ridiculous.
Most gasoline engines should be able to use the same exact oil filter and probably air filter, too.
