I moved about 6 months ago and it was amazing how much I noticed the difference. Ran errands this past weekend at several places that have equivalents in NOLA/BR. Every place I went had basically full employment with workers shuffling people through quickly and we’re professional, helpful, and polite.

Even using the USPS to ship a return was no issue at all. All lanes were filled and there was a manager standing directly behind them seeing how long each person took and what issues they were in for. I could go to the one on Louisiana in New Orleans anytime and have to wait for 20+ minutes before I could even talk to someone. And god help you if you had to get out of line to do what you needed and wait again.

We even went to Popeyes and was through the drive through with our correct multi person order in 2 minutes. Again, never happening outside of maybe canes or chic fil a and certainly not at Popeyes.

Had to have my battery replaced and where I went had multiple people out there to help diagnose if it was a battery/alternator/starter issue and then replaced the battery for us. Had two different batteries replaced living in NOLA and at the autozone on Claiborne I’ve literally had them wheel out a random box of tools and them tell me to replace my own battery because they didn’t want to. And whoever was working would have no idea how to actually help you if you had questions diagnosing an issue.

Forget that the roads are all in great condition, I can send my kids to local schools, police/fire show up immediately if we need them and we don’t get random boil water advisory’s or flooding after heavy rains, it’s the basic services of places I go when I need something that make the biggest difference. It’s amazing what the quality of little things like that will do to make your life easier and enjoyable.

TL;DR if you want to move out of state, I would heavily consider it. I just can’t believe what I put up with for so long living in NOLA/BR.

i've lived in four states and find things are mostly the same unless you're making a drastic change in density (city/suburb/rural)

eta: maybe another d word too

Its night and day. People don't realize the dysfunction around them.

In fairness, LA is no worse than Mississippi or certain poor parts of other states. Cleveland for example.

Cleveland may be bleak and miserable....but it isn't "poor".

I assume this was sarcasm, but in case Louisiana is the biggest nanny state in the south. And let's not get started on the amount of handouts the state has received and blown due to hurricanes.

I'm confused. You managed to construct a 5-paragraph War n Peace novel bragging about where you live, but then omitted the actual place or general location of where you live? I mean I understand you bashing the low hanging fruit shittiness of NOLA/BR, Captain Obvious, but that's like blowing the whistle all game on a retarded kid for double dribble.

Meh, you’re right and wrong. Things I had in BR that HTX does not offer:

- recycling pick up weekly
- trash pick up twice a week
- free city mosquito yard treatment
- nice ground water to drink from tap

But overall, your sentiment is valid

We were amazed when we moved that there were actually workers working on road construction

I don't pretend it's just Louisiana and all of Texas is better. But I live in The Woodlands which is definitely a nice area. Specifically going to Popeye's with family from Louisiana for the first time here is a guilty pleasure of mine. To see the shock on their face when you get acceptable, prompt service

Yeah, but the food is great and you can get a daiquiri at a drive through

The Popeye's in Maryville, TN is always fast and accurate, plus it's usually high school aged white girls working.

It's a little jarring, really, compared to the Popeye's on Staring Lane.
