I hate to admit it but our family has had tons of discussions on that exact thing and I was the one leading the charge.
However, it's the same old excuse; "but my Daddy's buried here!", "This is where I was BORN!" and "I'm not going anywhere without my (fill in the blank)...Mama/grandkids/etc!"
Nope, we won't be leaving.

Don’t malign all of Louisiana because of shitshows like nola and Br.

It really is crazy how different things are and for the better outside of LA. Going from south LA to south MS was night and day. People are friendlier there is much less litter and fast food workers are damn near all chick filet/canes quality. Even Popeyes has great service and as a bonus 99% of service people will tell you to have a blessed day.

Yeah - I get a kick out of this whenever we travel
A few years ago we had a lengthy stay out of state and I walked into a bank to get quarters for the washing machine - and I asked the bank teller if I could get quarters and she said yes, and then I told her I didn’t have an account here, would she need my ID and she asked me where I was from

Moved from Nola to Denver about 5 years ago and I'll tell you this with much, the DMV system in Louisiana is leaps and bounds better than it is in Colorado. Our eggs are cheaper too for some reason.
I will die on this hill.

Fast food service was probably the biggest shock to me. Some things not so great are the property taxes and the raping come vehicle registration time. Also no county trash collection but overall quality of life is much improved

The Popeye's in Maryville, TN is always fast and accurate, plus it's usually high school aged white girls working.
That was absolutely astonishing.
They’ve since relocated it into the Mall at Ramstein with other American fast food chains.

I have friends and family who just can’t get their head around the idea that other places are better. I lived in Texas and Colorado then moved back for 5 years (Mandeville). I moved back to Texas in 2020.

May be one of the weirdest reasons to not move I've ever heard.
If it's that damn important (I have no idea why it would be), have him re-buried somewhere.
Then again, the whole idea of burial is bizarre to me.

I don’t think this would be enough to move from CO to LA.

Breaking news
Nola/BR are shitty places

- recycling pick up weekly
- trash pick up twice a week
- free city mosquito yard treatment
- nice ground water to drink from tap
But overall, your sentiment is valid
The only one of these I do not have is recycling pick up weekly. Many neighborhoods do but my neighborhood voted against it because it would cost us more. I don't care if I have recycling or not. I live in a Houston suburb.

I'll tell you first of all that the majority of first generation Hispanics I encounter, legal or illegal are perfectly pleasant. Second gen are basically just like any other white Americans with some Mexican traditions.
Absolutely. Very hardworking people who care a lot about family, religion, tradition, etc. Many of them are conservative. The stuff you hear in the news gives them a bad name.

I live in Little Rock now, and despite it technically being poorly ranked in crime, poverty, education (similar to Louisiana), it still feels a thousand times safer and more peaceful than BR/NOLA. It’s not perfect but the COL, lack of traffic, ease of doing basically anything… it’s night and day. What I’m trying to say is that it doesn’t take much to be better outside of food/culture/people debate.
Someone I met just yesterday asked me if I liked it here and I said after almost 5 years, I finally do. It was a cultural shock and I had a hard time making friends at first. Told them I loved Louisiana and if I could transplant the culture/food/people (minus the criminals) then this would be the perfect enclave. Arkansas folk are friendly but very different. Louisiana people possess a genuine nature I’ve never really seen anywhere else. Some are rough around the edges but they’ll take you in as their own without a question if/when you’re in need.
Also, having all four seasons is awesome. Not a prerequisite to happiness but I enjoy a beautiful spring and fall season to break up the miserable heat.

This is why I like living outside of coushatta. Can get my driver's license renewal in 5 minutes.

Neighborhood scout says Fayetteville, AR and Billings, MT have the same crime rating (or very similar) as Baton Rouge but I can tell you which ones seem safer.
