Indefinitely. Probably at least a year. Structural damage on a bridge is a big deal plus it will be a state project to let out the repairs.

I'm guessing a year but at least 6 months

I bet someone two weeks. It can’t be that hard to replace a beam and two cross ties

Oh man. I really hope you are wrong. That’s going to suck.

That’s false. Just completely wrong.

Riverboat operators don’t answer questions in this state. Ever.

Baton Rouge – The Sunshine Bridge/LA 70 will remain closed indefinitely due to the damage caused by a barge collision Friday morning. Upon further inspection during the weekend, it has been determined that the damage is extensive and several vital components of the bridge are in need of repair.
“Our hope was to be able to use a portion of the bridge for traffic while emergency repairs were being made,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. “However, that is not the case. We will be working on plans to make the repairs as quickly as possible and will develop a timeline for when the work will be completed. I know this is an inconvenience for the more than 25,000 travelers who use this bridge, but it is not safe to open it to traffic at this time. The Department has worked closely with legislators and local officials to update them on the situation and to try to minimize impacts as much as possible.”

I’m starting to think that the DOTD gets off on prolonging traffic nightmares.

Well it's going to take months to repair a ramp on the Earhart expressway; I can only imagine how long it will take with a bridge.

The $640,000 repair contract calls for replacing the damaged support beams beneath the ramp deck and pouring new concrete on half the ramp over southbound Clearview. It will take about four months, the Transportation Department said.

Perfect time to
1: declare the bridge a total loss,
2: replace with a future-proof 10-lane bridge (Houston's Sidney Sherman Bridge over the Ship Channel, I'm looking at you)
3: run the approach-roads over to I-10 on both sides.
Voila, loop-problem solved.

The ironic thing is the capt/operator will get fired. But as long as he passes the drug screen he will have another job in a week. There is such a shortage of licensed people in the industry.

Well at least it wasn’t an Asian woman
We know they can’t drive
Shittily
I’d rather be parked on 10/12 in BR during rush hour than try to drive on any road any where amongst 2 Asian females.

That lower chord is a critical structural member. So are the gusset plates it is connected to on each side.
I don't know the exact replacement procedure but it isn't exactly easy. Probably first have to engineer some temporary supports before the damaged pieces can be replaced.
The cross braces aren't all that critical and should be easy.

When have you seen Louisiana plan ahead with projections 20 years in advance and use state of the art technology.
They have a contractor lined up and not going out to bid which is good. Wonder how long to manufacture the parts?

Bridge can still be used by emergency vehicles

It’s a finger pointing job let on emergency contract. They have already hired and contractor is starting repairs.
It will be less that 2 weeks.

Nah, I doubt but I will happily be wrong as someone who has to cross every day
