Care to explain?
Because I know what I'm talking about. Obviously you do not.

Not to stereotype but that tugboat sounds like a porn actress.
Fixed.

Perfect time to
1: declare the bridge a total loss,
2: replace with a future-proof 10-lane bridge (Houston's Sidney Sherman Bridge over the Ship Channel, I'm looking at you)
3: run the approach-roads over to I-10 on both sides.
Voila, loop-problem solved.
This is a pretty damn good idea actually.

They do have emergency contracts for situations like this. As soon as they get the engineering and have the material delivered, it will be work for 24/7. I’m betting a month or two.
Pretty sure there is a massive construction project that’s supposed to start on the west side early next year. Need that bridge open

It's part of maritime law Dick licker Now GTFO telling me I'm speculating

You’re just wrong. While limitation of liability is a legal possibility, the probability is slim. Insurance will pay above and beyond the value of the vessel and its pending freight with absolute certainty.

plus it will be a state project to let out the repairs.
No, since it's an emergency project they can just award the project to a contractor without public bidding.

I don't see any way it's repaired and certified in two weeks
Those iron workers have it down to a science and could finish the job in a week. Really, on land they could have it done in a day.

Athanatos:
Can you expand on your comment a bit? If the maritime operator's liability is legally limited by the Jones Act, why would their insurance carriers pay more than required? It certainly wouldn't be out of the goodness of their black hearts.
I know jackshit about maritime law or how these cases are typically settled. Just curious what tbe norm is and why.

That's all contingent on the needed steel members being available the same day. There will be a lead time on the materials.

Is that material easily available or custom stuff?
Posted on 10/15/18 at 8:49 am to Jester
I'm pretty sure that DOTD will get the iron workers here even if they have to pull them off another job. This is an emergency situation.
Isn't this basically what CB&I's specialty is?

The piece of steel hanging from the bottom of that chord/box beam is probably at least 24" wide and maybe as much as 30". The sides of that thing are probably 36" to 42" high, maybe more. I'd guess the whole assembly would need to be replaced.
Can that happen w/o some type of temporary cribbing/support being put in place? I don't know. That material isn't sitting on a shelf somewhere. What tbe lead time is to have it fabricated will factor into the repair time.

If they went with CB&I that bridge will be fixed by 2020
