not bashing it, just curious what OT has to say. Why do people want to live in Atlanta? How do they have such a large metro area?

It's actually a city with things to do.

Atlanta, Houston and Dallas are solid places to live with good economies.
Nobody is jacked up about visiting these places.

They have an airport.
Their football team blew the biggest lead in Super Bowl history.
Coca-cola
The Braves were good once.

Well, it's not in Florida. So there's that.

oh boy, you're about to have a ton of NO people come talk about somethign they have no clue about.
To try to somewhat answer your question, ATL is no different than most other very large cities in that there are many things to do and lots of opportunity. Inside the perimiter there are also many little pocket neighborhoods each with its own little flair. Although technically all "Atlanta", Brookhaven/Buckhead/Little Five/VA Highlands/EAV/Decatur/etc are all separate little areas each with their own little personalities. Many good restaurants, all the major sports teams besides hockey, concerts a plenty, world class aquarium, home of delta, world of coke, etc.
I mean there's a shite ton of things to do here. The answer of "why do people want to live there" is no different than why anyone wants to live anywhere.

You can have Houston and their overinflated ego of claiming every town within 50 miles as Houston. City sucks, traffic sucks, and you you are within an hour and a half of pristine beaches in Galveston!

i split time between NOLA and Atlanta for work ...... I like both for different reasons, but Atlanta is a bustling city full of parks, things to do, good concerts, restaurants of all kinds (especially real Asian) and the weather is seasonal. Not to mention close to mountains/hiking/boating etc.
It's not a place to vacation really but not a bad spot to work/live.

There's also about 40 streets named "Peach Tree", so it's got that going for it as well.

Near the top of the list:
The Airport
The Fortune 500 companies (i.e jobs and standard of living that comes with them)
The Climate (people from the North are constantly migrating South and the weather is a big part)
The Location (can get to both mountains and beach pretty easily)
Cost of Living
When you boil it down it's all about the economy and, namely, jobs. Atlanta has a lot of great places to work.

Atlanta always struck me as a good place to live and work, but not exactly an exciting place to visit.

Galveston!
Galveston is always on Beachfront Bargain Hunt, and every time I'm amazed at how flat and barren that island is and how gross and brown the water is.
