In my home town they recently demolished two bars that I knew very well in my younger years…. the Spinnaker, and the No Name lounge in Panama City. I bartended at Spinnaker in the late seventies. Man, what a great time to be young, single, on the beach, and with a pocketful of tips. Good times.
That makes me wonder where time went ….

When I was responding to that Bobby Brown thread a week ago, and did the math of my freshman days at LSU was 38 years ago

I hadn't put that context of years into perspective. Also did the math and subtracted 38 from 2024.... PHUC,

It really hit me when my daughter drove away from the house by herself in her own car for the first time. She's still my little girl; but that day it felt like her childhood had gone by way too fast.

Lost my oldest sister to cancer at her age of 42. That was a major slap to my face & made me aware of my own clock ticking away.

36. I had a thought when I was 36 that If I died when I was 18 and reborn, I'd be 18 again. The 18 years after high school went by so much faster than the 1st.

Chris Rock has this bit about life. He says everyone says life is short, but ask anyone who makes bad decisions about how long life is. Time stands still in prison and in a bad marriage. Count your blessings.

The first time I saw a local band cover 90's music and saw people ten years younger than me being nostalgic.

So true. I’m not in healthy shape but not bad either.
And I ‘feel’ young and active. Still can crouch and coach a Catcher, knees are good. (Note: I don’t dick around with that one knee shite either lol) Still swing a fungo pretty well.
But I look at a lot of guys and think they are looking old.
So I probably do too

My 4yo is constantly saying "ughhh that will be forever" when I tell her she's not going to her friend's house for another 2 days.
I tell her to enjoy the wait and everything that happens in the meantime, because the second they were born I realized how much of a thief time is.
When you're young, you're experiencing so many things for the first time. Your brain essentially slows down to take it all in. Once you're in your 30s and everything has become fairly routine, your brain conserves power for activities and kind of shuts down on the daily experience.

I'll look at pictures of my now 4-year-old and feel like I took the picture a few weeks prior, but looking at the picture then her, looks like she aged years. I hate it!
For the young the days go fast and the years go slow; for the old the days go slow and the years go fast.

at 73, I sold off the motor home and the 30 foot offshore boat. It was to big a job to maintain and use. The same year I got two new metal knees. Slowing down.

I barely remember 30-50. Marriage, kids, job, dog, mortgage, bills, etc.
At 55, kids all but out of the house, not much to do except golf and streaming. It's great!
But, I find myself looking back and replaying the things I missed out on or just wanted to get away from the noise of kids. What I wouldn't give for a weekend of that kind of noise.
Anyway, at about 55 I realized how fast the years flew by. The days sure seemed long, but not the years...not the years. So my advice to a 20 something would be try to enjoy the days.

I remind myself every day that I'll miss the chaos the second it's gone...I embrace it as much as humanly possible.

You spend your first 25 - 30 years looking forward and spend the rest looking back. It's the watched pot never boils concept.
I'm 40, one in high school and one in middle school and I wish I could have hit pause about 5 years ago. That was the good old days

Life before kids felt like it was moving at a snail's pace. Once that first one popped out, it got faster. Three kids later it's blowing by. Months feel like weeks, days feel like months. Hard to explain.

man, this perfectly encapsulates how I look at it now... in my 40's, it's weird to think of all that time I lost, and would love to have it back, but just gotta do the best I can with what's in front of me
