No, no , no

At this point you are too invested. OP 2-3 months is about right. Any consumer debt is a no.

You weren't honest with her about your 5k time, so you shouldn't expect her to be honest with you about her debt.

I usually wait until we have been on 2-3 dates. I'll find her parents house, knock on the door, and ask them myself. Usually around 9-10pm on a Sunday so I know they are home.

The more important question is how does she live? Out of state or private school student loan debt is dumb but absolutely forgiveable and understandable for a 17-18 year old to make.

If she chooses to drive a nice car, eat out nice dinners routinely, go to tanning salons, buy a lot of nice clothes, etc. and puts it all on a CC that’s not really acceptable.

A lot of it also depends on how much you make and plan to make OP. Can you afford her is the most important question?

If you have even an inkling that she may be "the one", ask her early on.

I love my wife dearly, but when we got married she had almost 100k in student loans. Two bachelor's degrees from LSU and a masters from OLOL.

A "reverse dowry" if you will.

frick me running.

10 years later and we've got it almost paid off. We owe less than 2k at a stupid low interest rate. I think it's paid off mid 2020.

I wouldn't change a thing about marrying her, but damn, what we could have done with that cash....

He earned his honesty through grit and determination. That's almost more admirable than telling the truth in the beginning.

Agree on timeline, no need to waste your efforts on a girl you aren't so sure on after 2-3 months.

Disagree on "any" consumer debt. If they are young, they need to build credit in order to receive favorable mortgage terms. Having an interest free payment plan on a TV/Furniture purchase is not the worst thing in the world.

Having a CC balance that nearly matches your annual income is a massive red flag.

Fortunately, never had to. His parents paid for his education, mine paid for mine. I hadn’t even had my first credit card yet when we met 8 years ago. Neither one of us have ever had debt.

That said, I see nothing wrong with discussing it as things get more serious. I honestly don’t know if I could date someone still struggling to pay back massive loans.

You can casually bring up student loans and fish for answers on that while dating. Anything else and you're being a dick.

Once you're shopping for a ring, you get to the credit card and gambling debts.

If she parks her car two apartment complexes away from hers with the license plate backed into a bush, run away.

As always, each additional cup in breast size makes up for $10,000 in debt.

For someone your age it's commendable to even think about this. If you are serious about it and want to grow in financial peace with other may I suggest Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey. Offer to take the course with her and see how she takes it. LINK

You’re a douche.

How much debt she has is a question for after the wedding. Be a man.

Right up front. If she's not the gravy train then it's time to move on.

When you’re at that point where you are debating pulling out or busting a nut in her, ask. Don’t decide until you get an answer. It could affect the rest of your life.
